You gotta be kidding!
Bring this into the service bays and you would be the talk of the dealership. Everybody including the 'operator' and the FedEx guy would be oggling your car in the repair bay commenting on the obvious; 'He dropped his transmission and blew up the engine'.
That kid would have zero chance of getting a warranty repair, especially on a MT as the driver controls everything through the clutch & throttle. Now if he drove an automatic he might be able to claim the trans "suddenly seized" but even that would be a tough bird to fly. Remember the burden of proof lies with the owner in case os of Mfr. warranty returns/repairs. The regional service manager would be called out to inspect and make a decision on this case...and those guys have seen everything you can think of including the tell tale signs of abuse.
Another option would be to swing by his local Hooters and hire the most beautiful girlie with the biggest well, eyes (!), and have take the car in for him and make like its her fiances (him) and that she was watching it for him while he's out of town. Cry a little, balther on an on about just having saved for 10 years to buy a small little starter home/trailer on the outskirts of town and throw in that she's 3 months pregnant with her first. You know, lay it on Duncan Hines thick & creamy. The looker might buy him sympathy with her sop opera style story but even then they might only go 60/40 on the repair. There is no way he'd get a 100% warranty repair on a full drivetrain (engine & trans plus removal & installation!)
No, this kids gonna pay, and pay and pay some more.
He's lucky there were no other cars on the road to run into (he reports having instant zero visibility due to the smoke & oil fire). No his best bet would have been to report it stolen and plan on going to hell later in life for insurance fraud.

Just take a trip to DC (SE or upper NW like Kalorama St.) or Upper Marlboro or Hyattsville or Montgomery Village at night wearing club clothes and bring a few gals for 'garnish'. Pump the radio at 10 then pull in to a dimly lit parking area a few blocks from a nightclub and make a big scene for all to notice. Then 'forget' to lock your doors and for extra effect act as though your just a bit tipsy and accidentally drop your key chain (valet key!) a few steps away as you make it to the club with your gals. Leave your cell phone behind all obvious on the seat as an extra enticement.
Guaranteed a nice kind valet will come along and relieve you of your Mustang and park it somewhere a little less obvious and dimly lit.
Two hours later, your minus one Mustang and you just give good ol' officer friendly a call to come help you find the kindly neighborhood valet.
