Seriously Considering a STi

The coachworks are not to par with most German vehicles, but you get the most bang for the buck. The STi is a car that needs to be understood to be fully appreciated and respected. After owning 2 German vehicles (2001 VW GTI Golf and 2000 Porsche Boxster) I can say I don't miss a thing.

A shining example is the Infiniti G35C. Another is the BMW 3 Series Sport Version. Both these cars make the STi build look like a tin can in comparison. The Volvo R cars are another interesting comparison (AWD, 300 HP, much better build quality, etc).
And you haven't even mentioned the Evo... What car could compare more closely (many think it better than the STi...)?
It's best to stop and think a second before making such a sweeping generalization...

I don't want to look snobby, but the EVO is not as upscale as the STi. The Evo really is more of a boy racer car. It would take a couple of thousand to make the car more upscale to be truly comparable. That being said - I respect the Evo for its capability - I just wish they had not scimped and left the ACY and interior lacking.

Furthermore, the doors have the same tin can rattle when you shut them.
Neither is upscale by any stretch of any sane imagination.
But don't worry about looking snobby.
You don't.
You look SILLY using "upscale" and "STi" in the same sentence.

I believe you misunderstood montanaSTi's post. montanaSTi was trying to say the STi's performance is the best for the price. He didn't say anything about the build quality. I agree with montanaSTi, no car can match the performance of the STi and the EVO for their price. Everyone knows they are nothing but cheap little econobox that can rock a lot of higher price sports car out there.

Moocow,
People buy cars for many different reasons.
Personally, I like high-performance cars (particularly those with AWD) and I'm not concerned whether it's an Porsche, Audi or a Subaru.....I currently have a modded S4 and hopefully will soon have an STi too.
The STi is all about performance (certainly little luxury or Germanic prestige, though you will be admired by every teenager/boy-racer out there) but it's a very "raw" beast indeed.
I would certainly try to test drive one (if possible) because it's going to be COMPLETELY different from your Merc. Just amke sure you're buying it for the right reasons and do some research, or you could end up being disappointed.

You've gotta admit the e55 AMG would still blow away the sti or evo. I've been looking at both the sti and evo in every possible way so far and I'm still somewhat sitting on the fence. I love the straight-line power, but I also love great handling.
So far the evo has been a more sensible choice In my oppinion because of handling and proven engine, even though there is less power out of the box I think most people would agree on this site half the fun of buying the car is too make it more powerful, and look different from others, so style and power is what you make it to be.
I still think the blk sti is the best looking out of the bunch, but I've seen better looking evo's customed out.
I own an 02' wrb-wrx right now and it's an incredible car, I love subies my wife has a legacy and she loves subies too but for some reason the evo has captured my amagination, go figure.

WRX-pilot,
Bob Baker Subaru in San Diego allow test drive. But you have to prove you are a serious buyer in the position to buy the car. Meaning doing all the sales paper work, credit check to make sure you are qualify. Basically you have to go thru everything like you are buying the car short of paying for it, then they will let you drive it.
Take a whole hour of hassle to get a short, light throttle test drive seem silly to me.

WRX-pilot,
Yes.
I got a ride in mrbadfish's STi yesterday, very nice car indeed, especially for the price. It is everything I was hoping it would be, meet all my expectation. Not to mention mrbadfish is a very good driver, he show me what the STi can do in twisty mountain road at maybe 8/10. Felt good
Hopefully I can meet you guys in the near future in my personal STi instead of my Nissan

What surprises me was, the STi feels faster driving it then riding in it, normally it is the other way around. Anyway it is definitely a great fun car.
Thanks again for the generous person who let me drove his car

Car Info: dream car Subaru STi
sti rules the streets starting 2004
simply put this, the STi is the shiet. its the best 4 cylinder and best for its money. SUBARU tech is the best, after driving a WRX, i can see how the STi is the best. yes id rather have a $120,000 porche twin turbo 10.0's, but id rather have a $32,000 Sti 12.9's

Now in terms of build quality, according to some statistics (JD Power) a Toyota Camary is SUPERIOR to anything built by BMW.
And the WRX has consistently rated at the top of it's class in terms of crash worthiness, whereas BMW's have generally been middle of the pack, so I don't know where you get that "tin-can" remark from.
BMW cannot claim to be on any kind of plateau in terms of build quality. You are really just confusing build quality with snob appeal. But I agree, best not to generalize.
