Problems with 2.5 '04 STI enegine ??
hey
HAHAHAHAHA
joel, you crack me up. and i agree 100% with what you are saying. i would hope they blew up LOTS of motors along the way. that sort of testing would be completely beneficial to us and to what could be a great motor.
not to mention they are a bit more educated on the US market these days. after the tranny woes, i am sure they spent a bit more time on R&D before soming up with the new motor.
i HIGHLY dought the motors are being built by a third party. just seems like a bad rumor being spread like old wives tales.

BTW - my point is that teh 2.5 block maybe aint a GENUINE STI block - it may be made elsewhere - period - either someone knows something about this or not

As for testing and blowing engines.. i saw a thing once about this guy whose job it was to test ferraris. He would get, in, and drive the living crap out of it until it blew up. On purpose. Then they look at the failure and see how they can make it better. I think speculating about the build point of the block of a car that isn't even sold yet is a little obsessive. Although I agree that sti is a venerable company... it's still basically a mass-production shop. I'm sure if they outsource anything they have quality-control in place and spec it out. It's not like you have Jesse James building you a custom bike and then find out he rebadged an '84 suzuki. It's always safe to wait a year after it comes out and then see what the real deal is after people have driven them. If you want to be an early adopter, then you have to take some risks. Besides.. if you buy two, what's the chance of them both breaking

Hey, check out this 20+ page PDF from the Subaru Australia website - it describes some of the parts on the STi Motor.
(Oops - this site won't upload a pdf - it is at http://subaru.com.au/explore/impreza...s.asp?item=183 )
BTW, if the 2.5 is anything like my old SVX motor, it is the LAST part of the car to worry about.
That said, I scared of what some mechic who has only worked on non-STi WRX's might do if it does have a warrenty issue...
Anyhow, enjoy the PDF!

Your "point" is pointless as it has NO basis in reality.
You started this thread with some way out "rumor" you had "heard".
Well, what' your source? You were asked that and didn't respond.
And I can't believe this thread is still entertaining your orginal premis.
I'm not.

Now that I have dispensed with the pleasantries---Mercedes outsources production of the new E Class and G Wagons to Magnasteer in Austria...does that make their quality inferior to those made at a M-B plant?...lots of parts made in todays cars are not made by the manufacturer...in fact according to industry analysts the "ideal" car company of the future will merely be a marketing/technology machine
The Sti will be based on a 2.5 engine that has been extensively fortified...dont worry..rejoice at our good fortune!
