New STI Wagon?

Well personally I love wagons and have had two, a Volvo and a Subie.
The reason we Yanks generally have a problem with wagons is cultuatral that goes back to the '70's and early '80's when everyone mom & pop had one and they were generally identified as family dork mobiles. To better understand this concept run by Blockbuster and rent "Family Vacation" starring the hilariously funny Chevy Chase and the beautiful Beverly D'Angelo. Then you'll understand.
Otherwise, SUV's are definitely _not_ "station wagons" with tall tires. To be specific the following brief list are examples of true SUV's; Toyota Landcruiser, Chevy Tahoe, Honda Pilot, GMC Suburban, Ford Explorer, Hummer H2, Volkswagon Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover, Nissan Xterra, Kia Sorrento and the Mercedes ML & G Series.
You should swing by your local autopark and take a close up look at various SUV's and then compare them to various station wagons. Don't look at the body cladding or who has foglights & mudflaps. That and tires do not make an SUV.
Cheers mate!

Actually I do know the reason why American hate wagon, but I just don't know why people can't change their view. That to me is outdated
Janq, up to this point, I agree with just about everything you have said on all the forums. But this I don't agree......... SUV are DEFINITELY lifted "station wagon" with tall offroad tires, ok so some of them true offroad machines are on truck's frame and all that, but still they are just lifted wagon............brah brah...... haha.......I know I am bias because I hate them. I know what you were saying though, I just wanted to say all that to vent my frustration...........

I refuse to look at any SUV in details because I am so against them, I know I have problems

JDM Nut,
You're cracking me up!
I like SUV's though I just wish their weren't so darn many on the road. But then I'm the only guy I know IRL that actually goes out of his way to go off-roading or busting through snow, in a car (AWD Legacy 4EAT)!
Twenty years from now when our kids are grown there will most likely be a backlash from them against SUV's for being "family trucksters" of the 'past'.

Janq,
Now that I calm down, well it is a long weekend afterall
Big bad SUV are ONLY good for 2 things:
1, Towing a trailer with a car so precious you don't want to put too many miles on it.
2, Doing hardcore offroading.
But the thing is, 99.9% of the people have no cool car to tow and never drive on dirt road
Recently I came up with a 3th way a SUV is good for and it is both true and funny
I used to hate seeing SUV on the road, but now I love seeing huge black SUV, the bigger the better (Excursion, Expedition, Suburban.....etc), the reason is so I can look at the reflection of the rolling BEAUTIFUL car I am driving myself.
haha it is so funny, people in the SUV I am staring at of my car's reflection think I am admiring their overprice, exotic car price/gas mileage, econobox performance lifted station wagon with offroad tires death trap. And I have that admiring look on my face because I can never tired of looking at my baby........haha super funny
You are right, 20 years from now people would think SUV are old school, outdated, POS....... I think they are POS when the first Jeep came out
I don't care who it is and what kind of SUV it is.........Lamborghini LM002, Hummer H1, MB ML55, Cayenne turbo. They are all POS to me.
Another funny thing is, SUV lover always complain how their SUV would roll over if they turn too fast.....hello look how high off the ground you sit and how high the center of gravity of your car is, so they secretly know how bad their SUV handle but they won't admit they are driving a POS. My co-worker is a perfect example, he is determine to drive a SUV, but he HATES the handling of it. He goes out and buy a whole suspension kit to lower the car and stiffen up the suspension with stiffer shocks/springs/sway bars, and it still doesn't handle like a regular car. SUV people are funny. To me that is like taking a 360 Modena, lift it and put some 33" BFG mud digger on it and hope it would climb rock like a Hummer H1. It would never happen buddy

I'm loving this convo. JDM nut, I concur. SUVs are pretty crappy.
I think there are different breeds of SUV lovers (all equally stupid).
First, you have the guy/girl who thinks they have a pickup truck(manly cuz its actually useful and can throw dirt and shiet in the back), but guess what....after you throw that shell on the back, its no longer any more useful than a wagon! These types like to sit higher than others so they can look down on everybody else. They often think they can tow a house with the thing...but probably don't even know how to use the hitch. Oh, and they think they can offroad too, but are afraid to chip the paint on their 45,000 suv. They also drive at least 20 mph faster than everyone else on the freeway just because they think their big V8 makes them fast, and often tailgate anyone in their way.
Second, you have the homey Gs who live in a 8x8 apartment and can barely afford rent, pour out all this money to lease the biggest SUV they can find with the biggest chrome rims they can find and blast the stereo they bought at the swap meet. I think this type believes the monster SUV with chrome rims has replaced the Impala and gangster cadillacs of the 70's.
On another note, if wagons are the more practical version of an SUV, are El Camino types the more practical version of pickup trucks? Perhaps they'll have "sport pickups" as well as "sport wagons" soon/again?

I agree with what you said.
And yes in my opinion, El Camino types are the more practical version of pickup trucks.

a couple points:
1- forester xt is not as tall as most suvs - barely taller than an outback
2- handling is much better than an outback but not as good as a wrx
3- forester sti is available for jdm with a 2.0 turbo which means that the suspension pieces are available
4- wrx short shifter is rumored to fit
5- i drove one yesterday and it is much better than i would have thought. handling is off because of the squishy geolander tires that are not meant for great handling. xt will light them up with a good launch. great low end torque and doesn't run out of steam higher up.
6- i plan on getting one with a 5mt, moonroof, leather when it becomes available this way. the reason is i want a performance wagon with a moonroof and this looks like the only decent one out there. the wrx wagon wouldn't work even if it had a moonroof because i'm 6'3" and the babyseat will push my seat forward too far. also do roadtrips with 4 bikes on the roof, 4 guys and all gear inside. my outback isn't quite big enough.
7- my immediate modding plans: 18" lightweight wheels with real performance tires. fat sway bars. coilovers. window tint. then its time to look at the engine mods. by then some tuners will have worked out the bugs with sti and aftermarket bits. i do plan on autocrossing this thing to gage its potential.
