Import a Japanese STi or buy a USDM STi?
I am from Germany and want to import a "real" STi (because I do not like the watered-down European version.)
Would you go for the Japanese twin scroll version or the US version if it was available? Do you think the emissions of the Japanese version are much worse? (This may also be a problem in Germany.)
Do you have any experience with Evolutionimports? (They sell the Japanese version.)
Thanks for any help,
Devlin

You should try searching a site called evolutionm.net. They are a evo site. I beleave some of the people there have delt with evoltionimports in the states. I don't know if that is the same company that is importing them to Germany. Good luck and let us know how it went.

When I was in Germany last year, I was drooling over the STi and EVO that you guys had there! Now it seems things have turned around... I just cannot wait until I send those digital photos of me and my USDM STi to my German buddies. <he he he>I would recommend you get the USDM since the steering wheel will be on the correct side of the car!
Just wait to place your order so that I can get mine first, OK?Die besten Beachtungen,
Eric.

@Eric You are right...we Germans can't believe it that you are so lucky and get your own superspecial 2,5l STi. You do not even need it with your 55mph speed limit. (We are sooo jealous ;-)
By the way, there a two alternatives to the USDM STi: the LHD version of the Japanese twin scroll version or a tuned European spec STi with 330 hp (but w/o DCCD).
Cheers,
Devlin

@Psyk You are right. Actually, I have already contacted them. Unfortunately, the 300bhp Prodrive Pack is not street legal in Germany due to its emissions. However, there is a street legal 330hp Subaru offered by Allrad Daewel in Germany.
I may go for this alternative because the 330hp Subaru has still a warranty on the parts not related to the drive train (and a special 2 year tuning warranty on the drive train). On the other hand, if I import a USDM version I do not have a warranty at all. Moreover, I was offered a #1 spot for 5,000 bucks and I am not prepared to spend that much ;-)

I'd highly recommend that. The most important thing is that the car has been emission tested and approved for your roads. It may cost a bit more than importing a USDM or even a JDM model, but at least if you have issues with the car, then you have a legal course of action. Otherwise you can get into all sorts of issues, especially in an accident involving someone being seriously hurt etc. and the car isn't 'legal' for your roads.
Do you have any details on the Allrad Daewel version? Sounds interesting?!

I do not have much information re the Daewel STi. It has a modified uppipe, downpipe and exhaust, a new fuel pump and valves, and chip tuning. It is not EcuTek tuning. It is not clear whether the chip tuning is some kind of FCD tuning.
