To tell the truth, i believe my WRX was a better all around driving machine compared to my STi. I could hit pot holes and grades in pavement. Enter parking lots without having to come to a full stop at the smallest bump.
The world is not a smooth surface, at speed the Sti can be edgy in real world "big bumps". My WRX could go anywhere and do anything. I fell like im destroying this car when i drive it the way i drove my WRX. Oh well, my STi is still one great car.
Lets just say i think i learned a lesson. I like driving, not statistics and numbers.
Ego put aside for owning an STi, the WRX is the real world champ!

While I hear what you are saying, I have a hard time reconciling it. My WRX was a beauty to drive but it doesn't compare with the driving experience of my STi. Granted you do have to slow down going into a parking lot that has a grade ramp but pot holes and street grades can be taken at full speed without worrying about losing control. It handles like it is on rails.
I think you may be happier after your first "ding"
believe me it can take a beating from bad road conditions by using a combination of solid braking power, a butter smooth gear shift, and fantastic power at almost any RPMs. All three of which were lacking in the WRX.

yeah man, i feel ya, however, you should be happy that you got one. hey, it's still a WRX, just modified by STi, hence, WRX-STi. so basically, you still have your car, except it looks a bit different and has more power.
I also understand what your saying but thats not what the STi is made for. Your lucky you didn't buy an EVO. Its much worse in the comfort department. Its suspension is rock hard.
If you really want a soft comfortable ride you better get a stock WRX or a family type sedan ( Lexus IS300).
But coming from a former WRX owner (2 years of driving and a Stage 4 Setup) the STi handles like a dream in comparison. My STi would totally kill my WRX on a track or in the twisties. There's no comparison. The STi handles great.
The soft suspension, high center of gravity, and very slow stearing on the stock WRX is not made for performance driving. If you have ever seen the stats for a standard WRX (lateral G's, Slalom speed, emergency lane change, etc) its not a true performance car.

"Like what SGOSWRX said (no offence to all you WRX owner). The WRX wasn't a performance car, it is just an turbocharged regular Impreza."
I love my STi but the WRX was much more than "just a turbocharged regular Impreza". It had "panache". Just read the reviewers' comments on the car. Many a staid auto journalist had to admit that the whole was more than the parts.
The combination of parts that became a WRX gave it fantastic handling and made it able to take on twisty roads as if they were straightaways. Many a Porsche and BMW driver found that out the hard way.
Is it better than the 2004 STi? No, the STi outperforms the WRX in almost every category. But the WRX was one hell of a car for $25,000.

True drivers
Well put by infinity. The WRX was one hell of a performance car. For those that said it was not, im not really sure you "did it right".
The abilities of the WRX were far more than most drivers ever could have mastered. Yet im sure plenty of people went to the STi cause they needed the power. Yes the STi has alot more all around performace and I LOVE IT. But how many really pushed the WRX anywhere near its limits.
Someone said something about "i guess you didnt want a real performance car" or something. No i do, and thats why i got an STi. I did expect a hard suspension, but did not realize the world of difference it makes if you REALLY DRIVE FAST on normal roads. The WRX can eat up roads that would throw the STi 2 inches in the air, hence no traction. This can be a problem.
Thanks for the feedback from everyone, it really helped. I got my first scratch on my airdam today and realize yes this is going to be a great car once i learn it. Just cant hit bumps at speed like good ole WRX.

I hate hurting people's feeling with my opinion.

JDM nut, you couldn't be more wrong. Those other cars you mentioned may feel faster, but they aren't. Since when do stock Altima's and Accord's run 14 sec 1/4's. Is the WRX the fastest or best car made, no. But make no mistake it is a performace car. Unless you think a Porsche Boxter isn't a real performance car. Don't bother responding, because you will never get what I'm saying. I'm if you had a new Enzo is calling the STi a slow POS.

Respectfully,
I think some of you guys have forgetten that the WRX has single handedly defined a niche market of affordable performance sport sedans.
Any vehicle that has been compared and contrasted against the former (and in many minds still) 'King of The Hill' BMW M5 by Automobile Magazine and won Car & Drivers '10Best' award two years straight cannot be suddenly kicked to the way side as pedestiran because a bigger & badder model is now available. Not to mention the WRX has recieved more awards, recognitions and all-out automotive press than any other vehicle in our decade since well, the E39 M5 and quite possibly the 'General Lee'. Now thats saying something.
The Impreza WRX is a fun & enjoyable entry level sport sedan priced and setup so that just about any Moe or Mary can afford it, have fun with it and most importantly like Subaru's have always been its built to last.
Lest you forget the WRX is configurable through all manner of OEM and aftermarket hop-up parts to make it fit almost any specific need and/or sport a driver might have whether it be auto-x, track, rally, ice/snow, mud/dirt, or just a college students daily driver & Domino's pizza delievery car.
Just because the STi is here and a fortunate & relatively wealthy few can afford to procure and maintain one is no reason to kick sand on that from which our car came from. Yeah okay, the STi is cool and everything like that. But as 'Money Verone' alluded earlier she is a somewhat high maintenance trophy wife, albeit a really hot one.
Where as the WRX is more the everyday 'cool girl' from the neighborhood who'll wear flannel shirts & play football with the guys on Thanksgiving, sport galoshes & make snow angels with Mom on Christmas and always looks good enough on Memorial Day to wear a bikini without causing mass blindness amongst the male folk.
Consider there are current WRX owners here and elsewhere who may never be able to afford an STi, or for that matter not have an interest in the STi for the same reasons of _practicality_ that Money Verone pointed out. Let those who aspire to an STi ride & drive by proxy of your owner posts. While appreciating the decisions of those who choose to forgo the raw and naked aggression of the STi for its tamer but still fun & challenging spry older brother. Don't denigrate WRX owners for their choice and/or situation stating their car is a "garden variety family car" akin to a Camry (!).
Thats one of the most back handed thoughts I've read here in a long while.
The WRX is in fact a nice & sporting ride, a might better than any Scion, much more awe inspiring than a Camry, and it has its own special place in Subie _and_ automotive history right along side the STi.
If not ahead of it...
