I.C.E and aftermarket gauges
Not sure whether this is the right place fot this thread, but it is very applicable to the US STi since it won't come equipped with a stereo as standard (and it's sadly lacking in some important gauges).
In all the reports I've read of the new STi/WRX, one major criticism is directed to the quality of the Subaru CD/radio system. So, one option might be to select a quality single-DIN sized unit (e.g. Alpine) for the double-DIN sized space and possibly use the surplus space to fit some aftermarket gauges (boost, oil temp. oil pressure etc).
Anyone have any idea whether the space would be sufficient to do this; I'm thinking of a bank of three 52 mm Defi gauges either just above or just below a single-DIN sized CD/radio. I've seen gauges fitted in various locations (e.g. on top of the dash in a three-gauge pod replacing the digital clock unit, on the A-pillar and directly attached to the steering column, but I don't particularly like any of these options).
I'm sure someone with an '02 MY WRX could give us an idea whether this might work since the dimensions I'm talking about should be the same/similar as the '04 US Sti.

I don't know if there will be enought room for 52 mm gauges in a single-DIN. It may just fit with the face plate just "clipping" the visibility on the top or the bottom of the gauges.
I'm aslo planning a single-DIN radio. They make some radical stuff now with built in hard-drives and mp3 playable cd players built in. Having your own mix with over 100 songs on a single CD is going to be awesome. Right below it I'm planning on putting in a data unit from http://www.psi3.co.uk. I'm not thrilled about the big blue buttons. I'll live with it for the functionality. It might even match the blue interior of the STi. I'm hoping the data-logging feature will be availible when I take delivery of my STi.

Thanks for the info.
I looked at this data-logging system too a couple of days ago........wasn't sure whether it would be compatible with the US-spec STi (can't see any obvious reasons why not) and when I took a quick glance at the specs., it wasn't obvious to me that it read-out things like oil pressure and oil temp.......maybe I'll take another look. The read-out units will be SI though, not Imperial (e.g. boost won't be in psi units).
I think Defi sell a similar unit which links up with their control unit II (instead of using individual gauges), but again I need to take another look at the DEFI specs.
Some nice options to consider instead of going for the standard WRX or STi gauge-pack options (which are pretty expensive anyway).
