The most important upgrade for someone in your situation: a brain upgrade.

Going to driver's school will let you bring out the full potential of any car you drive, after all, having an STi and only being able to drive it at 1/2 potential is a total waste, and any power mods will just make the car more and more dangerous.

I didn't mean to lecture you, but it would come up eventually anyway, might as well get it over with at the beginning of the thread

Add to my comment what jvb said. I've driven an 87 jetta, a 98 grand cherokee, and an 02' wrx, so i've taken a pretty linear step-up program in handling power, and the STi is still alot of car for me, as your first car.....well the insurance would be pretty high also, but its probably not an issue if you can get one at 16, if you MUST get it, please leave it stock, or let us know right away when and where it gets wrecked so we know which yard to go to for spare parts

To FINALLY answer your question, there isn't alot of info out there since the car is new, very few tuners have come up with packages for the car yet, the best you can do is throw random parts in there and hope your car doesn't blow up.

And sure it maybe rude to judge, but it might seem rude because other people don't care about YOU the person and only care about how cool it would be for you to get a fast car without taking into account your age and skill. Maybe you're one of those people that are destined to be the next andretti, but until you grow up, don't overestimate your skill, practice is good, but nothing beats experience in the real world, which unless you've been driving illegally, i can't say you'd have much of.

Bitter

Assuming this KID does get the STi, who wants to start a pool as to when he crashes it? Back in high school I had a friend who bought a 1996 4Runner when he was 16, in the first 2 weeks he rolled it. All Im saying is that you need more experience before you can handle a car like the STi.

take the advice of your elders fella

unless your dad's work vehicle is a GT car, and assuming he knows what an STi is, he should not let you get that car. I know its not what you want to hear, but its for your own good, and that of every driver on the same road as you. I'm 26 now, and i am barely ready for my regular rex.

I have been through multiple different types of driver training courses for my job; and they all helped some, but there is no replacement for time behind the wheel, and like the other guys pointed out, you just don't have it yet.

I am somewhat ashamed to say that i have already spun my rex around when i lost control, i was just lucky that there was nobody and nothing in my way. the only reason i'm saying it is to point out the fact that i have been trained as a driver for my job, and i still somehow managed to not be ready for a fast turbo car.

dude, get a gti or something and you'll spend half of what an STi costs, and you can mod it all you want; you'll have a sweet car to cut your teeth on and then by the time they get all the kinks worked out of the USDM STi, you can go down and pick one up below msrp cause the new models will be due any day... are you pickin up what we're layin down?

i'd love to go get an STi too, but there are lots of reasons for me to wait. just between you and me, the only thing old people are good for is teaching us what they learned while they got old... these guys aren't telling you not to get one cause you'll be faster than them, cause a trained driver in a regular rex could probly whip a nube in an STi, but thats besides the point; they don't want you to stack it up and get mangled (hint: the trucks i drive at work are big, red, with with the flashing lights and sirens)

I've got pictures permanently burned into my brain of more than a few kids who are dead cause they stacked up their ride. Sadly, most can be attributed to either alcohol or lack of driving experience.

do it for you mom dude, resist the STi until later; it'll still be there, and so will you.

sorry if i sound like an old duffer, but just like the other guys here, we don't want these things to go unsaid. thats what the board is all about, the LOVE... haha
take care, and for goodness sakes, do good in school, thats your ticket!!!
later, Bennie

some of you guys are real dicks. you don't need to say stuff like "who wants to bet how long if takes for him to get in an accident." that's rediculous. just tell him it's a serious car and to be careful. i definitely understand where you're coming from and even agree with most of it but talking about salvaging a car that he hasn't even got yet is not necessary
