Guaranteed MSRP in Cali
Hey, wondering anyone successful at getting a written guarantee for MSRP price on an Sti around here in the Sacramento region? I have been checking around, and all they have are "interested lists" and verbal blah blah... Easy to understand: They want to keep the prices floated so they can jack it up as much as they want according to demand.

Hello?!? Does that mean noone has got a written MSRP guarantee or they don't want to share the info?
If we have a list of dealers in Cali who are willing to give MSRP guarantees, then we can take that info and "put pressure" on those local dealers that put on outrageous mark-ups (tons of them out there). Here would be my argument to those mark-up dealers:
"Hey, I know this dealer here who is willing to put me on a waiting list for MSRP purchase. If you don't want to give me MSRP purchase, I will get on their waiting list to get my Sti at a fair price. You can keep your Sti's!"
If the dealers are banding together to put on outrageous mark-up's, we consumers should band together to fight their f***king practice! Unless, we all want to pay mark-ups!!! Not me!

$3000 above MSRP
My Salesman tells me $3000 over sticker. No, I'm not happy about that, but at least I have a number.
Now, the reason I don't like "Market Value Adjustment":
Charging me more for a product that the manufacturer suggests the cost of, is stealing my money. The MSRP accounts for possible markup and "market value" before sales begin, and even accounts for desirability, market significance, and segment performance scale. It's like you are doing the salesman a favor (giving him money is a favor right?) for carrying a car like any other dealer will be. A car that the [much smarter] manufacturer has already recommended a fair and marketable price for.
Pay the dealer for doing his job poorly? For crashing the free market economy at work? For having the next new thing? Not a chance.

) If enough dealers out there do like what the one P2x refers to, then those mark-up dealers will loose ground, especially if they know you have other options!

I went to the dealship yesterday and they can't say anything, nor do they know anything, or know the answers to any of my questions.
The dealship I went to (in Oregon) was a pretty huge dealship as they sold the cars in bulk to other places, and got them in bulk. So they sold a lot of WRX's all over. I tried to get a price from him, and he told me everything under the sun starting at 30k-45k. Of course I'm disapointed, but what can I do.
His biggest point was they they wanted to sell what was in the lot, rather than putting people on a list for a specific car. He also mentioned they they *migh* get 2 of them, and that there are only making 300 a month for the whole U.S. Sounds like BS to me.
Anyways.. I wanted to at least let some people know what I came accross the other day.
If it comes down to it, I will go to another state to buy the car, and drive it back!

Just came back from Santa Cruz Subaru after dropping off $500 deposit. Got a written guarantee that it will be sold at MSRP. I'm #27 on the list.
Green Valley Subaru in Fairfield also told me they'll sell for MSRP but won't verify that they'll put it in writing. But they only got 5 people on the list.

Uh... you must really be a subie-newbie, all cars brought into the US are 50 state emissions compliant these days. So if you buy an STi in AZ for CA, the only thing is they have to charge you your home state tax rate.
Another thing, Timmons in Long Beach MIGHT get 2 STi's on the first shipment at most, they are not a very big dealer.
