In terms of objective handling, accel, braking, cornering, etc, performance, both cars are stellar. But it's the subjective stuff (ride characteristic, seating position, shift feel, steering feedback, brake pedal feel, body motion, general sense of confidence, etc,.) which is going to divide people into two different camps. Both will appreciate the other. But everyone will have their preference.

I think that what shiv is implying is that the Sti and the EVO have drastic differences in terms of driving experience.. So much so that people who like the Sti will have drastically different driving preferences than the guy (oops.. or gal.. gotta be pc here) driving the EVO. This is no different than what drivers experienced with the earleir EVO and Sti models in Japan. They deemed the EVO more like a "race car" with a toggle-switch clutch and sharp handling. The Sti was branded as a "daily driver". But still, the ultimate decision is made by the buyer because he/she is the person buying the car.

Please don't say something like "my friend drove it and thought it was...., therefore the (Sti or EVO) sucks". Unless you are a genetic copy of your friend, you will have different preferences for what good handling and what good accel is. Test drive the EVO if you have the chance. When the Sti comes out, test drive that too. Then choose which car you like! Which ever you choose, they are both VERY GOOD cars.

Maybe it's the harded transmission or multi-cone synchros giving some kind of resistance? Since you have a TT I take it it's not like the rubbery Audi/VW shifter...
