Dccd?
Think?
I know!
And damn it's fun...
It's quite a bit different then a true RWD car... but it's quite easy to bring the back end around when you want it too.
I really tripped out some ricer civic boys when I drifted my way into a parking lot they were PLP'ing at.
Gotta love it... I'm gonna dread buying new tires... anyone priced out the RE070's yet? Are we gonna have to get em thru the dealer if we wanna stick with the 070's?

Are you sure you're not talking about the Potenza RE92's that are stock on the WRX? cause there are about $150 each... And they suck ***...
I was under the impression that the RE070's were more along the lines of $250-$300 a piece.

If you want to drift... the STi is probably not for you... two reasons... one which will kinda be solved soon
... One, unless you are truely skilled at drifting, the very act of drifting greatly increases the chances of something bad happening, do you really wanna do that with a $31k car? Two, at this point it's only 65% to the rear, having that 35% pull in the front keeps you from countersteering all the way and being able to hold the drift the same way as you could on a RWD car. I'm sure there are plenty of people dying to mod the ECU/DCCD to get 100% to the rear, so that will probably not be an issue soon
I hope. Even then, unlike a RWD car, the steering isn't gonna be as responsive since you still have all the drivetrain equipment up front even though there's no torque going to it.Anyways... do as I say not as I do

I should have some video of the STi "drifting" soon enough

However if you free the differential you are effectively sending all the torque to the rear once you start spinning the tires so it is probably not that hard to drift. But I agree that it's a really stupid way to abuse an expensive car. There is already a report of an Evo owner who burned out his viscous center diff while drifting.

um... this is extremely hard and painful to say... about that drifting thing... seriously be careful with your STi if you try to drift it. Please make sure that you are familiar and comfortable with the car before you do anything with it because I do not want anything to happen to your STi like it did to mine. Obviously I feel like a dumbass and a chump but hopefully if I share my story, the same thing will not happen to you.
The afternoon I got my STi, I decided to nail one of my favorite turns. This is a difficult turn but I've driven it hundreds if not thousands of times. Over the past 5 years, I've been driving an old Porsche Carrera 4 and it eats this turn up. Needless to say the STi is no Porsche but nonetheless I had full confidence in the STi's abilities. I am not an expert driver but I am a good enough driver to get into drifts, and come out under control, or so I thought...
As I came into the turn, the car felt great. I intentionally got into a 4 wheel drift about mid-turn. I was thinking so far, this is great. And then I hit some serious boost in second gear. The power was mindboggling; the tail of this car swung out something scary which was not greatly unexpected but left me wondering when the front wheels would start to pull the car out of the turn. But they didn't seem to pull at all and contrary to what I've heard previously, I didn't hear the differential start to work (perhaps there is even something wrong with my car cause there are other things that do not work on it, but that's a different story). So here I am going sideways through this turn, headed straight for the center median, thinking OPPOSITE LOCK, STAY ON THE GAS... But when you're headed straight for the center median in a brand new $32,000 car that is the car of your dreams, you don't act quite so prudently. I'd rather not discuss the rest of this incident but I'll just say that the car will be ok (eventually) and that I'm fine. I'm obviously an idiot for going out and trying to drive a turn like this a few hours after I got the car. Now, this story must disgust you cause here I've got this rediculous car, and I mess it up the first day I get it. But imagine how I felt looking at this gorgeous car, a car I've been lusting after for the last 2 years, after I just messed it up because I did something extremely stupid. So please spare me the the comments about how dumb I am and how I shouldn't have done this. I learned my lesson the hard way, and I hope that sharing my experience with you will cause you not to do something like this. The STi is one serious car so make sure you know how to handle it before you go out testing it's limits...
