Cornering and Handling: STi vs Evo
There is a gaping hole right now in the data on handling performance between the USDM STi and Evo. I have been patiently awaiting the car rags to do some meaningful comparisons...so far there was the "wrx hit the water truck" article which leaned fairly in favor of the virtually unmodified Evo outperforming the Sti in all but the straight-away sections of the track (where the heavily modified Cobb-wrx out-horsepowered the rest of the field). Still, I think this wrx didn't have DCCD.
So, point of this thread is asking for DATA on the handling performance of the two. That aspect of performance will likely determine my choice between the two.
We know: skid pad for evo 0.97 G's
do we know anything about subie?
Anyone know when the car rags will print on track competition between these two again?

where did you get the "virtually unmodified Evo outperforming the Sti in all but the straight-away sections of the track "
if you watch the Best Motoring Aprill issue you ll get a better understanding.
DCCD doesn't help that much on the track..
it's primarily the weight of those cars. and tires.

ok... first of all i read that artice.. the cobb wrx was freakishly fast, but this is the sti we are talking about... plus those were evo7 imported.the only reason why he probaly crashed was because his tires were big and probaly somewhere near slicks, the reason for that is probaly he wanted to beat everyone on the straightway
there is a wrx that smoked everyone at the races down in tracy, ca.... if you are comparing the wrx and evo7, then i say get evo7 and if u compare STi and evo7 i say get the STi. The evo u were looking at were 2 evo7's, one was modified rally edition, and one was stock =)

the cobb WRX doen'st just beat everyone on the straight.
it out handles everyone else too..
was a specifically made Auto X car.
that things pulls more than 1 G
and runnin 10 inch wide VictoRacer. was reason it crashed was the Victo don't do water. hydroed out.
plus that thing has 450-500 horse.. just look at it's time

The Cobb WRX, otherwise known as the Cone Basher project, was made for Auto-X as mentioned. As a matter of fact, no one even knows how fast it is in the quarter. They won't even take it to the track. The last I checked, they were putting 420 hp to the wheels with a built 2.5 block. The car is sick.

one thing i hate about those wrx's is that its kind of a fake unrealistic car that not any ordinarly person does....i rather see peoples cars from the forums and how they fixed it up themselves to make it look nice as well as performance.
ive seen nicer cars from the forums than the performance shops tuning it, expecially the 10 inch wide tires....who wants to drive a wrx down the street with tires coming out of the fenders, it makes it faster and better traction, but id rather not have those wide tires and get better rims than the cobb wrx and tires that fit inside the fender

Until we see a good bit of history of competition between the EVO8 & The STi, we'll not know the answer.... Even then, it's not comparing apples to apples if only because of the STi 20% larger displacement...
Bottom line for me is that the EVO 8 is leagues ahead of my mildly modified WRX (3" TB exhaust, Unichip, P1 prodrives with Toyo Proxes T1s and a few assorted other things)

manuel, that is very true... my friend raced his 2001 yellow integ type R with exhaust intake, grounding system, sum new intake manifold, vs. a black easystreet WRX. now the wrx hit my friend up first... at the light my friend in his type R smoked the WRX and my friend kept bragging about it after it happend almost evertime.. that driver in the WRX obvciously didnt know how to race as well as my friend. yes the evo8 is leagues away from the wrx.. yet.. a wrx can gain leagues with mods in no time, the sti i believe is a league ahead of the evo8, go subaru!!!

Don't forget, there is nothing but cobbled up stuff for the Subarus. You can get Ralliart stuff for the EVO VIII.... you figure it out, what's better, some buggered up piggyback chip? some cobbled up "standalone" aftermarket ECU? or a factory made, specially designed plug'n play direct replacement computer..... How about some fabriacated exhaust full of CEL fixes? or a *factory made* specificallly designed exhaust for the EVO.
Forget it, if the STi costs more than $3K over the EVO, there is no doubt that the EVO can be safely and easily modified with factory parts for 1/2 that price and get 30 more hp than the STi. Sorry man, I love Subbies too, but this aint even close. EVO rules

I'd like to see some evidence of a Ralliart ECU FOR A USDM Evo......to my knowledge this is speculation and wishful thinking. Just because it's available for Euro spec or JDM spec Evos doesn't necessarily mean it will be available here.....oh and by the way, if we want to throw speculation into the mix, how about the 400 bhp chip that Prodrive are currently developing for the USDM Sti..............yeah, mine's bigger than yours and my dad can kick your dad's ***.
All this Evo vs STi is so much BS.

As far as the prodrive products go, I really have no idea of their availability or feasibility.
Cheers,
Manuel
BTW, my dad is no longer around to kick anybody's butt (or not)
And my EVO will probably not beat up your EVO (if you have one). And frankly, I don't care who's got the most horsepower (I think the Mustang Cobra does anyway). I do like my EVO though.....
