complaints and rants about STI...
as far as mitsu vs. subaru reliablity goes, two words, crank walk. If you dont know what that means, do a search, and you'll know within a few pages which company is better known for reliability.

Car Info: dream car Subaru STi
well i have driven the STi at the dealership when i first bought my 04 WRX and i had to wait for them to detail my new ride, they sales rep let me test drive the STi, and i got to punch it but he got mad at me hehe because it was only 14 miles on it and he said take it easy its not broken in! hehe but i had to and when i punched it first gear oh my god i loved it. i knew there and then this baby was power. all the way.
what i can say is this, i would chose the STi over the EVO because i trust in subaru more and feel more loyal to the impreza. its gained my trust through experience and pure satisfaction, im into drag racing more than the track so to me its all about who can go faster from 0-100. because the STi's handling is right next to the EVo handling performance. itll still woop ***, just needs new suspension and better tires. and the STi is faster and more powerful, thats whats more important to me, because the handling can be fixed easily. STi handling is still AWD, racing suspension, its not gona effect the total grade, its still an A+ to me.

Regardless, EVO or STi doesn't matter. The driver will be the difference. A friend is a driving instructor and drove an EVO. "The car is fast and needs nothing more than brake pads and a rear swaybar." Those are his words exactly. As for the STi it probably would be very similar.
Good Luck!
I haven't driven an Evo, but I looked at both cars, read all kinds of articles and for me, the STI was the car I was looking for. I seriously enjoy the power and torque, very strong down low and no lag. It's great having power availabe eveywhere. Here in Hawaii we have no great public roads to enjoy the slight handling advantage that the Evo might have. If I still lived in Colorado with the many awesome canyon roads, I might have gone Evil, I mean Evo... But I enjoy the power much more, the gauges just rock, and besides the seats, the interior is much better IMO. I think you need to be living in the mountains or on the track every weekend to enjoy the Evo over the Sti. But like others have said, the driver will be the difference.

Will some dynomats along the sound system install help the issue a lot?

EXACTLY!!!
EVO needs to be pushed on the track HARD to feel the handling advantages over STi, plus Evo has no torque unless u rev the sh$t out of it and get up there in RPMs.. STi has tons of low end torque (just see dyno charts for both cars)..

I think that when it comes to these 2 cars, you can't really argue numbers or what something has while the other one doesn't. All that matters is............... Preference. In my view, both are VERY good cars, but if you're only going to choose one, I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever one it is.
My preference is the STi. I've test drove an Evo before and I have to say, that car is FAST. But unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the Mitsubishi dealership did not want to buldge from their additional markup and didn't even want to sell the Evo at MSRP even to a serious buyer. I left and they didn't even bother stopping me. For me, the service from all Mitsubishi dealerships in my area, from what I've read pretty much sucked so I got my STi instead since there's at least 2 good dealerships around my area.
So really, you're deciding between 2 beasts. Both different and similar, so I suggest that if you can get a test drive in an Evo and then get a test drive (or a ride) in an STi, that would be your best bet.

I knew it hadnt been driven in some time... It also had 2 miles on it.To bad the dealership let the Blue/Gold be there test dummy for people like this. I really wanted one. I got the Blue/Silver instead.
I ordered my STi and when i went to pick it up there was 80 miles on it so i walked and luckily another dealer had the color i wanted 1.8miles barely no gas they gave me slip to give to the gas station to bill them for the gas because they didn't want anyone driving it to fill it up.
I drove my friend's evo many times and it's very fast but the STi is faster everywhere on the road course and on the strip so i don't know where this handling advantage is because it's so slight but the STi is much easier to induce oversteer and is very progressive times i've seen in real life show the evo viewing the STi's nice new taillights from a far.

Dude, get what ya like better, both are hard to come by to get test drives in, is what I found anyway. Someone mentioned earlier about problems w/ all manufacturer's and that is totally right. That's what the warranty is for, I went w/ the STI because I LOVED the WRX but I bought a Spec-v instead(
) at the time I liked what the Nissan had to offer and was quick for what it was, however a few problems here and there and a dealer that sucked prompted me to start looking at other cars, and I found the STI!!! As far as the reviews go both offer a lot, however 30k for a Mitsu anything is not for me, I am not a big fan nor do I have any faith in Mitsu engines, just my opinion.
Good luck in your quest,
lol
