I've had my car on order for 11 months and finally picked it up on Friday (Blue/Gold). I was not working at the dealership when I ordered the car but became a salesman there just a few months ago. Anyway, In the few months I've been selling Subarus (I have sold 3 STI's in that time - originally they were marked up to 6k over MSRP but nobody was buying. They had to come down to list to start selling well - I have not seen one STI come in that did not have some paint issues. You need to look carefully over the entire car before accepting. Most of the issues are very thin scratches on the clearcoat that can be componded and buffed out easily enough - I had this on my hood. I've seen cars come in with body damage - dings as well. We usually get them fixed before delivery and the buyer is unaware. Just pay close attention to details when looking over the car.
In any event, the drive is superb. I love the car. I've read about owners jumping in and doing mods immediately. I am waiting for Vishnu to start releasing their upgrades - in my opinion they are the best tuners for the money.
Anyway, Have fun and stay Safe
