Not to keep babbling... will make it short. i know this is a little off STI topic .. sorry.
But, yeah, people in all these forums can be a little harsh sometimes. No need for that.
I was at a gas station in Vegas last week and these kids in Honda Civics and Acura's (all modified "ricer" type... but they really raced em at a local drag strip) came up and were real interested in my car. I am not a big "import" car guy, despite my owning and EVO and a Subie, Ive always been more of a VW and Porsche guy..... but these kids were totally cool, and we talked a long time bout my car, and their cars (they were nice cars... not my favorites, but nice cars) and also the STI. I'm 30-something, they were all kids... differnet walks of life, different preferences, but still had a great time talking to 'em about some cool cars. Just thought it was cool, and I hope a lot more of that goes on.... specially between the Evo and Sti crowds, but also the other enthusiests (American muscle cars, sports cars, other imports, etc).... And hey, I still like my ol' dodge neon. I know all you guys will think that is ridiculous. But 111K miles, never broke down or left me stranded (and its been abused) and actually a fun, light, tossible car to drive around on the curves. Not every car can be an STi or Evo... but they can still be useful, fun and good to own!
All right.. I'm done. I won't bore you Subie guys with any more of my stupid posts from and Evo owner...

Sway Bars and Strut bars fix UNDER STEER
What I don't get is that all these Mag's are dissing the STI because of one thing Under steer oh wait I mean two things the price. All I know is that under steer can be fixed real easy with Sway Bars and Strut bars. Then you can have your Go-Kart Steering BIG DEAL. The price look at it like this 1/2 liter more you get what you pay for remeber.

Also if you use the logic that understeer can be fixed real easy with some mods...well then the 30 hp can be made up really easy with a few mods. So you can see how this doesn't work. Infact some people could make the point that the EVO is a few thousand less in price so you could invest some of the savings and again make up the 30hp and still be cheaper.

The Evo product manager probably has a really good press relations guy on the job, and that quick Evo steering must have made a really strong impression.
Anyway, I went away from the articles thinking that the journalists loved the Evo and were throwing the Subie a bone based on its respectable numbers.
Still, I can see people taking a different read on it.

The STi understeer??? who cares... how many of us really are gonna push our car to that limit?

As far as pushing the limit is concerned, both the EVO and the STi are designed to do just that. People who buy cars like these and DON't push them (or don't have the driving skill to push them) are wasting their money, IMO. But again, each to their own...

Edit: just read your post at evolutionm -- yeah, I saw that before and was one of the reasons I even bothered to LOOK at the Evo (I was in line for an STi prior) and then test drive the Evo. That review was so thorough... really helpful for those us not at that driving-skill level yet but working our way up there and wanting a good car to do it in......
Good points, both well taken. I see your point, just not sure if I agree (in my case)
You are right, I couldn't say for a FACT I wouldn't like STi better , but there are few reasons which lead to that conclusion with pretty good certainty. 1) The understeer might bother me a little, because I am not so used to it. Really used to my 944s2 with neutral / oversteer.. that is the one car I spent the most time driving hard, so I am more comfortable with oversteer than understeer. If I had come from a FWD car, would be less of an issue. 2) WRX seating position (not the seat itself) not comfortable for me for some reason... position of wheel to pedals to armrest to door panel armrest to shfter. I don;t know why, but just no comfortable, and I checked the STi photos and the the general setup (particularly doorpanel armrest) is the same. 3) Rear leg room. That was important for me. WRX (and STI) have less. 4) Styling. Not fond of my tailights, but the rest of the styling I like slightly better than STi (SLIGHTLY!). 5) sunroof - that is important to me... have always either had cabs or sunroofs. Some people don't care. I do. 6) price. small difference, but a difference. Given there are a lot of things (especially sunroof) I like better, being cheaper is a small bonus.
7) You all will think I am stupid-dumb, but I like the interior layout better than the impreza's. Not talking quality, just styling and ergonomics... the dash and door panels in particular. My wife totally disagrees with me. 8) my subaru dealler dicked me around on my forester purchase. Service guys are GREAT, but I hate the sales manager / owner. *******, and that bugged me. Mitsu dealer was pretty cool (they are brothers)... we'll see how there service is after purchase??
SO, given all that, I am pretty sure I would choose an Evo over and STi if I had to do it over again.. Unless it turns out to be a piece of crap (i won;t lie.... that is the one real concern I have.. but my family has had good experience with Mitsubishi's in the past.. got my fingers crossed)
As far as pushing the car... I agree with you. The car should be pushed, that is the fun, and I do it. But not everybody can do 10/10ths or even 8/10ths. I am not that good of a driver, and I don't want to kill myself or someone else. Yeah, I live in the mountains, every road is "twisties", and I drive fast. But my ability is lower than the car's ability, and I don't think that is a "waste of money". Its good (for me) you can still have a ****load of fun. I have driven other fast cars in the mountains (WRX, C4, M3 and 3 series, 944, and other fun but lesser cars) and this one is the most fun and exhilarating for me... so I bought it. Even if I don't push it to 9/10ths.... still ain't a waste of money. If this car is more fun than a WRX or BMW or Audi or whateve for me, then it is worth the money. It is more fun than my old 944S2 cab... a lot uglier, but a lot more fun and alot more hardcore, so it is worth 3x the money for me. For others, maybe not.

<<<C&D just plain sucks. Read how they did the tests, different times, conditions, days, and drivers.
What do you expect from a French owned company though?>>>
Wow ignorance runs wild in here too!!!
Shouldn't there be a minimum IQ or education level in here to post ?? Come on people!!

people rely too much in what mags say, imo, if you like a particular car , take a test drive it`s what you like not the mags , hell everyone has different tastes and likes and dislikes i won`t knock either car at all, I `m just so glad that we are finally getting these cars.
