Car and Driver Review is out...

EVO by a nose overall according to them...

Some highlights...

Subie faster in a straight line (4.6, 0-60; 13.2 , 103mph)
Nicer interior, but crummy seats (?)
Broader powerband, much nicer engine
"Inexcuseable" understeer
Skidpad .9g

Evo handles like a "go kart"
Faster through the twisties
Still fast (5.0, 0-60; 13.6 , 101mph)
Engine not nearly as nice, more lag
Cheap interior
sweet Recaro seats
Skippad .9g

Still, it was VERY close, and both cars were completely fawned over. The way the review read, I still want the Sti. More of a daily driver, nicer ride, more power and more speed. Understeer should be easily correctable. (I think that aspect cost the STi the pole position.)

For me, I just have not been impressed with Mitsu quality over the years. I am just going to stay away from the EVO.

So in other words, each car has negatives and positives that pretty much cancel each other. Whichever car is "better" depends on the person buying.

I have seen R&T reviews, automobile mag reviews, C&D reviews, etc pitting each car against each other and all have come up with the same thing. To summarize, the EVO is not a daily driver, but has excellent handling. The Sti has softer suspension, but is a better daily-driver with less harsh of a ride. Both are powerful with peak torque and HP coming at different RPMS on the curves. Conclusion is that both are excellent cars.

Did anybody see the article where they were comparing the EVO with the Mosler 900, 911, Mustang Cobra, Corvette Z06, Jaguar XK-R, Ferarri, etc? They compared top speed, figure8 times, the whole gambit. It was amazing how the EVO kept up with exotics that were at least twice the price. I would be curious to see how the Sti stacks up.

Silvata,

Everything in a nutshell. The EVO and STi have their own quirks and perks which define the characteristics of the car. They are built for the same purpose. bang for the buck. Both do that well. Whether people like the EVO or Sti better depends on the person alone. It's your money so you buy whichever car you think you like better.

Anyways, enjoy your EVO! I have yet to see an EVO on the highway in Norcal.
