I was definitely contemplating Defis until you posted the pics of the STi Genome gauges from Japanparts.com (re-badged Defis).
The Defis are pretty expensive and it would certainly pay to shop around........you would also be much better off if you could fit them yourself (not for me, I'm clueless).
For the new Defi-link gauges you're looking at around $200 to $230 per gauge, plus the electronic control unit (~$120), plus the top-dash pod to mount them in (Defi 3-gauge pod is ~$150, or so) plus whatever it costs for labour. I would estimate that you're looking at around $900 in parts plus labour.
There are definitely cheaper alternatives out there as far as gauges go (Autometer) and others slightly less expensive (Omori, Blitz, Greddy etc) , but Defis are one of the best.

gauges at night
Richi,
The black-faced Defis glow green at night, but they also do white-faced gauges and I'm not sure about those.
Check out:
www.defi-shop.com
and
www.spipowerexcel.com (US distributor)
Blitz do some guages that glow blue......but that might be just too much given the Sti's abundance of blue interior trim !!

double check my magazine..
according to it
those STi Genome 3 cluster meters are 117,000 yen.
that s around 1000 $ if i am not mistaken..
rate @ 1 $ vs 120 yen.
not sure if we can get a massive discount..
is it hard to put them on??
once those questions are outta the way. i ll serisouly consider..
they are Perfect Matches!!!

If you check out the www.japanparts.com website they have a Yen-to-$US converter which showed the price to be $865 the other day. However, the company is Japanese (Tokyo, I think) though they obviously sell worldwide. I'd want to find out exactly what that price included i.e. does it include the 3 gauges, the control unit (needed to replay the stored data), the pod to mount them in and the three sensors (boost, oil pressure, oil temp). If it does, then I think it's a reasonable price.
The alternative would be to start a group buy on the standard Defi link gauges from a US source.....these are identical to the Genome gauges (minus the Sti logo). You may have more flexibility on which gauges you purchase in terms of black face, white face and size (60 mm versus 52 mm). Also, Defi sell gauges in the US with both Imperial and metric units so you could have your boost gauge calibrated in psi rather than bar, for example.
Maybe a group buy on Defis has been done before by people in the WRX forum on i-club ??

Yeah, if the price includes everything - senders, wiring, and even the control unit, then I think it's almost worth the price. My only question is if these are for right-hand drivers - meaning the gauges are tilted to the right or is it just straight. And the pod comes unpainted, I think, so it might be a pain to match the color/texture of the interior.
Definitely prefer the genomi over defi just because it blends in with the rest of the interior.

The Defi pod doesn't angle the gauges one way or the other, so it's OK for LHD and RHD cars.
It's true that the Defi pod is unpainted plastic of some sort, but not having seen one up close I've no idea what the quality is like (should be very good)........the Genome pod is probably just a Defi pod, but it may already be finished/painted to match the Impreza interior.
Definitely would pay to have all these questions answered before parting with the $$.
Also, anyone have any idea on the cost to have these professionally fitted ?

I think if you follow the directions it's pretty straight forward. Probably be around $200-250 to get it installed.
Another thing, since we have the 2.5 here, the senders might not fit since it's made for JDM. Any ideas?

I bet the lighting is red at night. I can see it sitting in my imaginary STi...

You don't need to specify the make or model of vehicle when you purchase guages, so the Genomes and Defis (and other makes) should be compatible with the USDM STi.......the pod fitment, on the other hand, will be specific to the model. The Defi 3-guage pod is designed specifically for the Impreza and fits on top of the dash just like the Subaru OEM pod.....you lose the digital clock though. I think the only thing the Genomes offer is the STi logo.....but possibly they're illuminated a different colour at night...........one final thought; aren't the USDM STi gauges (speedo, tacho etc.) a blue colour rather than black like these Genomes and Defis ?
Maybe SOA will offer a nice set of gauges as an option for the STi.....the SOA WRX ones are made by Omori and designed to compliment the colour of the other WRX gauges.
