05 STI predictions

AWNS729,
Just an FYI...four days ago an e-mail was sent to me by a NASIOC member via BCC in which he succesfully negotiated a _GROUP BUY_ of three STi's at $500.00 _below_ invoice!
I'd forward it to you as proof but I deleted it last night to make space in my Hotmail account.
The economy sucks, the Fed's proved it on Tuesday, Christmas is coming, and dealers are looking to clear stock on any remaining STi's that have been collecting dust.
Check around and you'll find folks today taking delivery for less than the cost of an EVO.
It's a buyers market for the educated consumer...

NICE! So evos are being sold at msrp still? oh and theres no question in my mind, i believe you. but there are places in the US where prices are still in the high 40s after dealer mark up believe it or not, well thats what ive heard from iclubbers anyway.

Yep, check prices here in the Mid-Atlantic.
Locally here in the NoVA/MD/DC area EVO's are stacked up 3-6 deep on dealer lots in rainbow colors. I just talked to a new EVo owner on Sunday that I parked next to in Reston, VA while at Target. He said he walked in & out of the local DSM dealer and had keys in hand within 2hrs and he paid _invoice_.
I didn't see his paperwork nor did I ask for a copy of it, but those were his werdz. Then he went on to tell me that he'd taken the car to WV and driven it up to 155 mph.
Look outside of your immediate area/local economy and you might be surprised. Similar same reports are coming in from all over in major metroplitan centers including even NYC.
Money talks when the economy stalls.
Paying a dealer markup is not wise nor required.

Here in VA Beach area Hall Mitsu has 8 Evo's rotting away on their lots. I'm sure they will sell for below invoice as they keep getting more of them.
here's the message I got from Subaru of Jacksonville Florida
Currently in inventory we have 15 STI's
available for IMMEDIATE DELIVERY. Drop me an e-mail or call me direct at
(800) 393-3455 and let me know how I can help.

If I would have waited longer, I would have saved on the STi, but the WRX would have also depriciated more due to the higher milage and the onset of the 2004 WRXs... I did get over 2K off the Forester XT I bought 1 month later!
Yep - that's right - Never, ever, buy a first year car unless you can get it close to invoice +- $500. Wait a couple of months and save Gs. I'm waiting for the right time to make my move. Dealers are nervous and like Janq said - its a buyers market and money talks.

Why there will be an STI in '05
Regarding this whole 1-year limited production rumor that's been going on, here is what I have to say about it:
This is the EXACT same thing that happened with the S2000 (an even less forgiving, less daily drivable car than both the Evo and STi, that has been out on the market the whole time this economy has been in a rut). I remember back in 1999 and 2000 people were saying "They're going to discontinue it next year" or "you better get it now before they stop making it". I heard this every year, year after year from "inside sources at Honda" and "my friend that works at Honda headquarters" and guess what.....they are STILL making it and have in fact redesigned it a bit. Sure, honda has more of a market presence than subaru or mitsubishi and has the numbers to support its production.
BUT if subaru is going to keep a hold on Gen-Y buyers, they are going to keep the Sti. They need it, this is the only subaru product that is "cool" to most young people. When the WRX was originally released, they finally had a grasp on that Gen-Y market. Do you think Stis are the only cars sitting on the lot gathering dust? Nope, I tell you from experience once again, the exact same thing happened with the S2000. Does Honda need the s2000? Definitely Not!!! They have plenty of other products available for young people and the enthusiast, namely the civic, civic si, etc. The S2000 is just the bread and butter, it adds image and aspirations for the potential Honda buyer, it gives them something to look forward to.
Is this wishful thinking? Perhaps, a bit. But I say, STI in '05.

yep.
And, who do you suppose puts out those rumors? I'll bet it's the car company. It's great marketing.
Now the rumor is there will be no STi. After they release the 2005 Subaru will have to do something to get everyone exited again about the car. So, since it isn't time for a redesign yet they will release the STi Spec C or RA.
By the way, we must always remember this is why a company redesigns a car in the first place. It is just to get us excited about it again. That's all. That's how they stay competitive.
The same thing has been going on in the evo camp. It has been out for less than a year and people's excitement starts to wane. So for next year there will be the evo-RS introduced. And, there may or may not be an evo-MR released as well.

Car Info: dream car Subaru STi
first of all STi is king of the hill, not a $100,000 twin turbo v8, thats too much cash.
second of all its not the ej257 that was made for OUR crappy gas, the ej257 is made in gunma and shipped hear using usdm regulated ecu and catylitic converters.
and theird of all, "its hard to pick anything but the EVO as the winner of this contest. giving up some straight line performance(on a very hot day) to the germans means little when you consider the EVO was on pace or leading the pack in all other excercises, and it costs 35 to 65 percent less than the German cars. We'll give up some street cred any day for that kind of performance. By every measure it appears that the days of spending more to go fast are over."
-Josh Jacquot SCC September 2003 Volume 15 No.9
HOTDAY:
stock evo $28,987 +tax 14.0@97.7mph
vishnu evo $34,000 +tax 13.1@105.9mph
stock BMW M3 $47,195 +tax 13.6@104mph
stock Porche911C4S $81,800 +tax 13.6@103.4mph
stock Audi S4 $45,650 +tax 13.8@100.6mph
and i hope they do have 05 STi's, it would b sad if they dont.
