Anyone done this themselves?

I got a quote of $400 for the part and $200 labor on a 2008 XM-ready Impreza.

Doesn't seem too ready...

if you really want xm for factory stereo, dealer is pretty much the only place you can go unless you can find the oem xm tuner flying around on ebay or craigslist and install it yourself or by a shop.

i'd recommend, if you dont plan on getting a nav or changer and others, go with basic or no stereo, take it to circuit city and get it done there, it'll be much, much cheaper. (if they break/scratch anything, it'll be replaced no charge, life time installation warranty)

and if you dont mind having a seperate xm tuner (one not built into the radio), its like having a radar detector but you can have it hardwired (wires hidden-not using cig plug) @ circuit, the unit itself ranges from $30 up to $200 and full install is about $100.

or you can get a nav with xm...if you get pioneer d3, you'll be looking at very roughly $800 for nav/stereo, $100 for xm tuner w/ nav traffic, $300 for install.

thats 1200 + tax for nav, xm, traffic report...wonder how much that'll cost @ the dealer :X
