Wiring Up Amp

When installing the amp, i need to run the power wire from the batter back to the trunk (obviously). My question is, going from the engine compartment to the cabin compartment, how do i go about doing that? I studied the existing wires and it seems there are several places that they go through the firewall (correct term?) I found an empty hole -- should i use that or try to cram it in with something that's already in use. Secondly, if i should use that, do i need to buy some sort of replacement gromet? The hole is about 1" in diameter and the cable is maybe 1/4".

You can use the empty, unused, plug. you just need to cut a slit, or two slits 90 degrees apart (to form an "X") in it and force the wire through. Make sure the wire isn't getting in the way of anything. If the seal isn't good enough for you, you can add some silicone to the rubber plug when you are finished. Yes, it is called the fire wall.
