Whats in YOUR trunk?
If anyone wants a spare tire fiberglass enclosure just let me know - I'm currently making them. I can make it in fiberglass ($200 plus shipping), carbon fiber or carbon/kevlar (which would cost more) but there isn't any real advantage to a carbon version other than looks and a little improvement in stiffness- I've just read that some people wanted carbon.
What I would need to know is what type of sub you you would like to put in it as the mounting depth and volume is critical. Really any sub that will work in about 1/2 cubic ft. will work just fine. I can raise the baffle height to accept a deeper driver and/or give more volume to the enclosure. How deep is the spare inside the well on the wagon? What is the distance between the top of the spare and the cover? I don't know this as mine was made for my sedan.
The tub is made from multiple layers of fiberglass cloth and matting- it's pretty darn solid. It's molded with a 3/4 inch MDF ring in place. The baffle board is then glued/screwed/sealed to the ring. The baffle board is 3/4 inch MDF and has a countersunk cutout for the sub so it doesn't stick out above the baffle board surface. What you don't see in the photo is that there will also be a layer of sound dampening material on the inside of the tub.

Hey wrXrated,
Whew.. I just got done making and installing the sub enclosure. It's all installed and looks great! I really hope you don't mind me copying your design, but I know that your system sounds great, and it seems to be designed with the same attributes I am looking for. Everyone can check out pictures and leave comments on my webpage. Check out http://flatland.staticky.com/modules...view_album.php. This is served off my home PC on a cable modem, so sorry if the upload speeds are less than wonderful.
At any rate I have a few more questions. I am working on installing Focal speakers in the doors. (again I hope you dont care that I copied you). I guess I am going to have to fashion my own spacer, but I am wondering if they had to do any modification to your door panel to make the speakers fit. Did they cut throught the door or does it just fit? It is so shallow in there because of the glass. How annoying.
More importantly. Can someone tell me how the hell you get those door bezels off. The door bezel is the ring around the door handle that subaruparts tells you to pry off. There has to be a better way as my fingers are currently numb and I only managed to get one of them off only to find out that the speaker would not fit. Great. If anyone knows how I can get this off could you let me know? Also do you know if subaru sells the rings? They are just dinky plastic pieces so I'd almost like to break them off and then just put new ones in. Does anyone know where I could pick some up?
Thanks! Any comments on my install/advice on my current situation would be greatly appreciated!
