I had a very hard time for changing my speakers in my 2002 wagon WRX. THe front speakers are 5-1/4" round, however, I tried to put the infinity in, it didnt fit, because the infinity have a big magnet. So i bought a pair of 4" x 6" and custom made a wooden bracket to fit the front speakers.
The rear speakers are pretty simple, just buy a pair of nice 4" round speakers, they will fit perfectly without any problem.

The fitment for the front depends on whether you already have the factory "upgrade" speakers installed. If so there will also be spacers that allow 6-1/2" speakers to fit. Not all will fit however due to depth limitations so you still have to check. The Crutchfield website is a good reference source for this info.
If you don't have the spacers you have to get or make some to accomodate the 6-1/2's. There is a member "East Coast Scooby" on NASIOC, possibly here as well, who was making and selling them.
The rears as stated are 4" although the openings may allow for 5-1/4's.

6.5 components for the front. i have rockford fosgates with an amp in mine. you may have to make a bracket for thm to sit on though, becasue the standard 6.5 speaker sits to deep, and the window will hit it.
hey it is pretty simple, you will need duct tape the silver ****, and a solderring pencil, for wireing up. use the factory wires.
when you are in the door, the panel off, you see that there are 2 color sets of wires, left door white with black strip(-), and red with yellow stripe(+). there are 2 of each color, cut them strip them and solderr htem together one red and yelow to the other red and yellow, the same with white with black stripe. on the right door you have to do the same but they are different colors. i think they are like green with a white stripe and brown with black stripe. You will see that the other wires gone on to where the factory conection for the tweeter is.
with the components you have to be careful to get the polarity right. find out for sure which is pos, and neg.
i know i should not have but, i ripped out all the plastic, the clear **** covering the door frame.
I looked on the back of the molding for the door to look for a place to mount the crossover, i put it between these 2 gold colored nuts the are holding on the slide for the window.
the speakers themselves i made like a ring out of the plastic mounting ring for the grill of the speaker that came with my set.
i cut parts of it out to make it fit. it works like a spacer between the speaker and the door, you only have to raise it up like a .75 inch and you will be good to go.
when i was done wiring it all up, i used duct tape to tape all the wire in the door panel down, i think it is better then ty rapps cause the wires do not bounce around, and rub on anything.
also it makes the door sound more solid whenn i close it, no rattle.
the other thing i did was on the door molding, the plastic that goes over the top of the speaker, i cut away on the door so there would be nothing close to it to impede the movemnet of the speaker. hey if you live close enough to Philisburg i would show you. I do not have a digital camera(too Poor).

this is the size
I found the answer for the speaker size. OK for the front its 5 1/4" . BUT if you can find a competent installer in your area you can fit 6 1/2" in the doors I just had my local installers put Eclipse Point source 8962's in the front door( the tweeters are 3/4") There wasn't an extra charge for them to fit it in the front. The dealer just has to take a few minutes to fit the speaker in there right so the window won't hit the door.
Back door, you can easily fit 4' in the back butt there is also enough room to fit 5 1/4". In my back doors they put Eclipse Point Source 8952's. WHAT an improvement! They are awesome speakers I paid $100 for the rear installed and $120 for the front. I definitely recommend these over the Alpines and every other Coax speaker thats out there. I hope this helps everyone out.
By the way if anybody wants to save $20 off their order of $199.99 at Crutchfield just give them this coupon code. p474w-7wa6v-gx8cp just say a friend of a friend gave you the code.

crutchfeild still has the wrong speaker size in the magazine, 6.5 fit the hole nicely, there are only like 2 companys that make the really flat speaker like the stock one is. they are expensive though.
