Yeah well i was just using ultem as an example... I work with mostly metals and exoctic plastics. we don;t have any of that tinted lexan lying around but tomorrow I will ask them how much it is to order it. Only problem is I don't think we can order just a little bit of it.. prolly going to be a whole sheet and might be too expensive for me to get that just to make 1 peice with it... is there any other place I can get that? like home depot or some kinda hardware store?

I can order the plastic through work.... there is not a good picture in the book we have there though and I want to see the stuff in person before I buy it since its pretty expensive. I went to a local plastic seller here but they closed 15 minutes before I got there so i will have leave work a lil early tomorrow to go check it out.

It would not be any harder to make it flush with the plastic bezel, but it would be much more expensive. When having metal cut with a laser, you pay more for time than material, and that would take a lot more time to make the two plates thicker. I could make the back plate thicker, or use several back plates as spacers to get the proper thickness, but it'd still cost more.
As for the requests for more pictures, I don't have my own digital camera, so I have to wait till I'm at my buddies again.

Thanks for the good feedback guys. My manufacturing source is kinda busy with his real job right now, and so am I, so this little side project is on temporary hold.
What I'm hearing is that $30 would be a good rate for them, and have them anodized in different colors. It would be kinda cool to have them done in black, blue, red, clear (aluminum finish) and maybe a few other colors. That way, the plates could be mixed and matched to meet your needs. Example: WickedWRX with the Carbon fiber trim might want the letter plate in black with the backing plate in aluminum.

instead of making the metal thicker why dont you just change the mounting depth of it? peice looks mega thick right now, and you could probably just adjust your mounting bracket so its flush??
looks Vs. Function
as far as that single DIN slot you have left when installing a Single DIN CD player. I would personally much rather have something that was functional for the car rather then just some piece of metal that said WRX on it. I have seen a 3 gage cluster face plate that has been put in that slot, or as someone else mentioned some sort of electronic, speed meter or AFC or something of that nature. just my 2 cents.
