Sub slides around in trunk

Anyone have trouble with there sub sliding around in the trunk due to the thin carper Subaru uses? I'm really don't want to bolt it in b/c I want quick access to my spare. I had used some velcro and it works to a certain degree. Any suggestions?

I used some steel wire attached to the sides to keep mine in place. It is in the back corner so I just needed 2 pieces to keep it braced against the side. It works good.

I was thinking of maybe attaching a small L bracket to the box. Wire might not be a bad idea though. Thanks.

You need to secure your sub box to something. L brackets are recommended. For attaching the L bracket to the box, be sure to drill through the box and use nuts/bolts and the largest washers you can find (straight screws will tear through that particle board in the event of an accident).

Leaving the sub unsecured is a pretty bad idea incase you are in an accident. The weight of the woofer basket + magnet + weight of that box gives it some serious potential to hurt something if you're in a front end impact. So much so that It'll easily tear through your rear seat and come flying directly towards you.

If you can't catch your sub box with your own hands with a friend throwing it to you, imagine it at 40 or 60mph...

I launched a sub box through the front windshield of my last car, and it was held in with 2 L brackets, but no washers.

I recommend atleast 1/4in bolts.

Please...for the love of god...do not just use velcro. You need to use something that will hold it in place in an accident.

I used L brackets, but make sure you check where to put it. There is only one section you can mount it or it will hit the trunk floor or the spare.

u should get some 2X1 slats or something like that and stick it to the floor where the side of the box meats the floor and so the box won't slide around and u can get to the spare when ever u want

maybe you could use nylon webbing straps (like those used in backpacking / camping).
You could cut little slits in the trunk liner on each side of the base of the sub box and basically strap the box down. you can get quick-disconnect snaps to easily take the sub out if you need to get to the spare. Probably 2 straps would work best....

I haven't actually tried it, but it sounds like a feasible idea and it shouldnt cost much.

I would suggest 2 nice "L" brackets with wing nuts. This way you can remove the sub when accessing you spare. You can get all of this at Home depot.
Use 1/4" T-nuts inside the enclosure (glue them in place) and then 1-1/2" long 1/4" **** bolts (bolts with a **** on the end) Something like the picture.

Note about flying subwoofers - Most of the Subaru back seat is steel - the likely hood of the enclosure coming through is highly unlikely, even in a high speed crash.
For some vehicles it would be possible if they have fold-down rear seats and if the latch was defective but this is not the case in subie sedans.

Steel seats?

I dunno about you, but I've taken RS and WRX seats apart...the seats are definately composed of different densities of foam...not steel...

Heh I used Industrial Strength Velcro from Home Depot.

Put it in a H formation on your box and use the rest to secure the trunk carpet mat down to the trunk metal. Worked like a charm.

I also plan to get a Cusco V Brace soon and will put in the L Brackets at that point.

No, really...you don't want to use velcro...

When driving, you're never really applying more than 1G of force to that box in any given direction.

When you hit something, or something hits you, several G's are applied to the box and that velcro will not hold.
