compustar is not owned by dei...dei does own viper, clifford, rattler, valet, hornet, wasp, python however.
true, compustar Spread Sprectrum two way does have a better range than dei's resonder series, however, it does not have code hopping, which dei's have 2^66 code bit hopping.
if your not sure wut that is, basically when you send a signal to your car to arm/disarm, a differnt signal is sent/learned.....this is key if you have a thief who knows what there doing and has something that can "grab" codes...such as compustar's products.
if you really want range and protection i'd recommend waiting for clifford's new two way, this system is gonna be bad aZZ!

most thieves only tool is a screw driver, hammer, or slim jim....not an expensive code hopping, remote module learning tool. code hopping is good but not that important.

I have the OEM alarm in my WRX, and I love it. It's never had a false alarm in 2 years, and you CAN add additional sensors to it if you like. It's plug and play, so no hacking your wiring harnesses, and no risk of messing up your electrical and voiding component warranties..... I say this specifically because people have fubared there cars by incorrect installations of aftermarket alarms.

1 vote for the OEM one here.

Another question is how hard is it to find a STi w/out an alarm anyways? Let me know if you guys like your stock alarm. I live in Sacramento, and theft if a huge problem here.

OEM is okay, but is doesn't have any hood protection. If you have the oem alarm make sure to add a pin switch at the hood. Without the pin switch a thief can just pop the hood and disconnect your battery...then disarm your security system.

I have the CompuStar. It's the best alarm I've owned thus far and I've had DEI. Also, they have a unit (mine) that works as a starter as well. It's got a mile range... $650 installed, can't beat it.

Pop/break the "you know what", then three turns and the OEM goes into valet.

Choose an alarm system that is difficult for anyone other than yourself to put into valet.
Hidden valet switches that's just an on/off switch, even if it's hidden.

All the padlocking and guard dogs at the front door won't secure you didley with the backdoor wide open.

The coded keys/immobilizer that came with the MY 05s, are good but a growing number of owners have encountered issues where the keys have to be reprogrammed.
Meaning, even they couldn't start their car for some unknown reason.

How do they put it in valet without the key when the alarm is going off?

See manual and some imagination what the thief would use in lieu of a key

I don't have an oem alarm so I don't know what you might be referring to. Are you talking about the valet button, a screwdriver, hotwiring, or what? Even with a valet button, you still have to put the key in to disarm the alarm. I guess I have no imagination...
