Stereo nub

Hey so I have an 06 TR and I am wanting to replace my deck because mainly it doesn't play MP3's and doesn't have the aux in as you all know. Can someone recommend me a good deck that doesnt require me running wires to a battery etc etc etc? Or is that going to be a must? I want to use my current speakers which are the upgraded ones, and I am thinking about just getting the amp/sub that the dealer offers to go w/ my speaker system. Audio isnt my strong point. Should I go with an aftermarket amp/sub? Will that inevitably require me to run wiring to the battery? Thanks guys.

Ah wait one more thing. In another thread I read about having to get a wiring hardness to install a different deck. I know what is sounds like from the name, but what is it specificly and how does it help me / why do I need one? Sorry for being such a nub . Thanks.

Most decks get all there power and speaker hookups from the back of the deck. If you just get a deck then you will not need to run any wires.

If you get an aftermarket deck then you will need a harness. The harness plugs into the factory wire harness and has all wires to connect to the harness that comes out of the back of your new deck. Basically a middle man for the new deck and the stock wiring. That way you can always unplug the harness and go back to stock.

If you are going to be running aftermarket amps you will need power, ground and remote turn on for every amp. Not sure about the factory amps, those probably work through the factory harness.

Hope that helps.

E

Yes, it did. Thanks . I don't really NEED a sub, I get decent bass in my book with what I've got, I just hate having no aux in or MP3 support. So I just need the wiring harness, which I think I saw on subaru genuine parts...correct me if I am wrong? Then just get a decent deck...do you have a good one (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg) that is a good match? Also is it hard to get access to the tabs i believe they are that I have to squeeze to remove the stock deck? Thanks .

--edit--

this is what I have bookmarked for the wiring harness

Is that OK?

That harness looks like the correct one. Then whatever deck you get will come with a harness that plugs into the back of it, then you just connect all the wires with wire connectors. Power, Ground, Speakers, etc.

I personally have a pretty pricey deck, but i believe Clarion and Alpine have MP3/ AUX hookups. I have a clarion 7" wide screen, but i use RCA - headphone jack adapter on mine. If you get one of the decks i talked about you will only need a headphone jack - headphone jack adapter. Pretty easy actually.

About the tabs, there are no tabs in my subaru STi. You pop out the trim piece around the shifter first. Then you unscrew a few screws behind the ashtray. The whole front piece will come off (stereo and ac control cover) and the deck is actually held in by screws from the sides of the stereo tower. Once you get the front cover off you will see what i mean. Do some searches on it somewhere on the net you should be able to find something.

some alpines have v-drive that needs to be directly connected to the battery.

i just got my 06 wagon yesterday and will probably throw in my alpine in a bit. . . as for subs, not sure if my 2 12s will fit in there.

good luck!

i had 2 12's in my 2000 outback in a bandpass box. Took up a lot of room in the back but it fit. But you would have to do a really stealth box in a rex to make 2 12's fit without loosing trunk space.
