Speakers for 2004 WRX
** I have searched before I posted ** :-)
Are the speakers for the 2004 WRX sedan the same size and configuration as the 2003? I have the stock speakers and they are garbage (IMHO.)
None of the audio Web sites out there show the 2004 WRX compatible speaker models. I'd rather go to the audio dealer with some info so I don't look like an ignoramous on the subject. I am NOT an audiophile but don't want them to know. :-)
I am aware that placing larger speakers in front might cause window problems so I would be fine with replacing with the same size.
I have read quite a few suggestions about which speakers to get but most of you folks are setting up your sound to blow off the doors. I just want a cleaner sound at higher volume. When driving with the windows down, the speakers distort even at a level just loud enough to hear. Ack!
Is the stock CD-changer/stereo good enough so that better speakers will sound fine at higher volumes (such as volume level 15)?
Any of you folks recommend a Long Island audio installer? I have heard that Avenue Sound in Patchogue is very good.
Thanks for your help,
Scott

A good pair of aftermarket speakers will probably require MORE power, so with the same head unit you'll get less volume.
You can keep the stock head unit, and add an amp + speakers. Choose an amp that takes speaker level inputs, or add in a line converter so you can use the amp's RCA jacks.

I kept the stock speakers and replaced the head unit with an Alpine CDA-9811 FM/AM CD Receiver. What a difference!
See the specs at:
http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/pls/...y=20&p_main=10
I got this unstalled for $375 which included everything needed except for tax. Doing an amplifier and speaker upgrade would have run at least $700. The stock head unit was the problem. Even better speakers would not have sounded better with the stock unit.
Down the road I may upgrade the speakers and add an amp.
Thanks for your help.
