Some audio qs from a noob

Hey all, I'm picking up a new 05 RS in june, and right now I have an entry-level pioneer head unit in my neon. My question is, would the entry level (I paid 110 dollars for it from circuit city, I forget what model number it is) be better than the stock stereo? If I was to change the head units, all I'd need is a wiring harness, right?
I was also considering getting the OEM tweeters. Would they be a good addition to this simple setup?
I'm not a huge audio guy, but I heard the stock headunit in these cars is really bad, and I'm just considering these minor upgrades, especially since the car doesn't even come with tweeters!

Edit: Actually, I just checked crutchfield, and I think the model I have is the DEH-1700, and if it's not that exact model then it's very similar...

getting any after market stereo would be alot better than stock usually... unless the sound system is like a bose or jbl sound system which subarus do not have. the lout put on the aftermarket radio is alot stronger. the tweeters on the oterh hand you shoundt get. If you going to get any speakers in you subaru just get aftermarket ones. You can compare the difference in size of the magnet and the material of the cone and you can see why aftermarket are far superior to stock speakers. all in all you sould just spend a little more money and get component 6.5 speakers for your front. they come with a tweeter and you mid range 6.5 speaker.
