Security System Problems
I got a 2002 impreza ts a few months ago and I was told that it had a factory installed security system. I didn't think twice about it living in low-crime Maine until a few days ago when my car got broken into. Now I am starting to wonder if I even have a security system, because no security light blinks on my dash. I do however have a remote lock and I can use it to set off the panic alarm. Could someone help me figure out whether my car has an alarm and if so, why it didn't go off when my car's window got smashed.
Thanks.
Thanks.
The keyless entry w/panic is standard, the security/alarm upgrade is optional.
If you have the security option there will be a horn for the alarm mounted under the hood on the passenger strut tower. Also the security module will be under the center console next to the e-brake.
When the car is locked with the remote the security light on the dash should blink once every few seconds.
Also note that even if you do have the alarm it does not have glass-break detection specifically, so depending on how the shock sensor sensitivity is set it's possible the window could be broken without setting the alarm off. The alarm would go off if the door was opened though.

behind the glove box (the entire glove box must be removed to get to it) is the shock sensor box and on it is ta small ajustment screw. I too had the same problem even though i have the upgrade alarm. quite frankly it is useless. A vid cam and a frican electric curent around the car in some high voltage would be beter and more fun. My car has never run since the nave unit was stolen becaus they fried the entire wiring loom. My car just looks good but is a big paper weight right now from some punk nasioc guy(yes I found out who did it) I still am hoping to cross his path again.........he frequents the wed Harper's sports bar and grill valley meets. I will never go to a meet again. all i did is let everyone see what they can steel. a few weeks after my first meet bam all stolen. A year later I go to anoter meet bam that night mor stolen stuff. I have the guy on video and the cops do nothing. I give them an adress and they do nothing. they even have finger prints for Pete's sake no wonder so many people take the law in ther own hands.
