searched...interior lights dimming with infinity powered 10" sub?
Hey everyone,
I searched for diming lights and dimming interior lights but I didn't find anything that related to this situation.
Everytime my bass is playing in my car while one of the overhead lights is on they dim. I haven't noticed any dimming of any sort in my headlights or cluster or HU though.
Anyone know what this could be?
I am running a 4 gauge ground 1 foot from the amp using the JL grounding unit, and running a 4 gauge power wire from the battery through a fused distribution block to the amp.
I also just upgraded the grounds on the motor by running 4 gauge wires from the unibody to the driver's side IM and from the negative terminal to the driver's side IM.
Thanx,
David

Mine do that also. (2 10" RF P210S4s @ 387 watt)
It just because when it hits hard it takes a surge of power from the battery leaving less for the light + everything else you are running. I don't worry about it as it's only the interior light as far as I can see.

it might be how you wired the sub. Im using 2 12' Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1d's in my car with a 1600W Audiobahn amp and a 4g power wire. I dont experience any dimming inside or ouside the car. However when i did first install them i was getting slightly bad dimming of the headlights and worse inside the cabin. Now honestly im not sure if it was how the sub was wired or if it was the settings on the amp that caused it since i altered both before starting the system up again but im thinking it was more closely related to the wiring of the subwoofers and the ohms that they were using.

*edit* try upgrading the "big 3". Its basically a grounding kit. Check this link out for deatiled info...

It all boils down to basic electronics - If you are pushing a sub and when it hits hard the lights dim, it is caused by the increased draw from the power source. A way to keep your power stable would be to add the large capacitors to the system. A larger guage wire reduces the resistance and increases efficiency, but does not change the power handling charcteristics of the system. A better alternator helps charge the battery, but does not react fast enough to rapid power draws experienced when playing music. You'll see multi battery systems with a capacitor setup to maintain stable power to the equipment you have... This takes the pressure off the charging system and provides a longer lifespan to your equipment..
The grounding points are fundamental and need to be verified, but I belive if you really want to pursue it - do some research on mobile audio capacitors.
