Hi--me and missus are shopping for new car and pretty sold on Outback 2.5i, which would be our first Subaru. The stero connectivity situation is giving me a bit of pause, though.

I've got a portable MP3 player (Archos) I'd like to use on long drives, and will probably want to get satellite radio at some point. Wireless FM modulation is a lousy choice, as we live in frequency-dense Northern California. Yet the Outback seems absolutely upgrade-proof. Am I right that I can't:

1--Replace the factory radio/CD with an aftermarket unit, becuase the HVAC controls are baked in?

2--Connect a wired FM modulator, because Subaru invented some whacky new antenna connector?

3--Create any kind of line-in input, as there's not even connection for a CD changer?

Are any of these likely to be addressed in the near future? Or am I stuck with a choice between crappy FM modulation and another make of car? And what the heck is Subaru's problem? Not like I'm going to spend any less money with them if they provide a lousy "aux in" jack....
