I know little about stereo systems, and not really into loud sounds, but I want to replace my OEM stereo with a CD/MP3 player that uses a single slot (DIN???).

how hard is it to DIY this mod? what things I need (ie mounts, amps, etc)?

if possible, can you guys give me an estimate on a "typical" stereo upgrade cost? I just dont wanna get ripped off just incase...

just to keep my questions simple, I wanna have the ff for my stereo (01 RS):
1. plays CD and MP3 (WMA not necessary)
2. Built in CD changer would be good
3. not too flashy (brand names not necessary)
4. single slot (so I can use the other slot for storage)
Is this possible? and what is my "best" set up for my situation?

there really is no 'best'

i would go on to crutchfield.com and look at all the different stereos they have to offer.
alot of people recently got the Alpine 9856 and like it alot. i personally dont because i like the older alpine models but so far it looks like they are holding up nice. also, if you have an iPod you can hook it up to the headunit for about $30 for the cable.
eclipse makes good headunits too.
alot of today's cd decks are MP3 compatible when you get into the $140 + range.

i dont think you're going to be able to find a single DIN headunit with a changer anywhere, and if you do its going to be $$$

Crutchfield.com have nice people and a very friendly customer service. I ordered a Kenwood KDC-MP5028 (the one on sale) I hope to get it by the end of nextweek. they also hooked me up with harness and a universal DIN pocket for free. all in all it cost me $160 shipped.
