need help on speakers

I want to upgrade my front speakers with components, but I don't know much about speakers. What can I get with a budget of $170? I saw some MB Quarts on ebay close to that $$. I guess they were the low end model. What's better: get a low end model of say MB Quarts or get the high end model of a lesser brand?

Thanks in advance

why don't you go into a stereo shop and audition the speakers for sound quality? that would be your best bet...i'm sure others around here have suggestions as to what sounds good, but in the end, it's really up to you and your preference.

scope the speakers out at a shop and go online to find them at cheaper prices.

I agree with doughboy, everyone likes different speakers. I'm sure you can find something in your price range.

great discounted speaker places:

www.etronics.com
www.hookedontronics.com
www.onlinecarstereo.com
www.ikesound.com

They don't offer much in the way of research info, but wow - they have great prices. I am also shopping for a new system for my 04.

I went to the local shop today, listened, found my top choices, and am getting them online. I have already found savings of more than $150 on Alpine Type R's. They seem to be the favorite of the peeps on this site.

I also am looking at Polk db650 and Infinity Kappa's.

Already got the Polk / Momo sub ready to go.

Thanks for all the info guys. I went to a shop and listened to a couple of speakers and after considering everything including price$$$$ I decided to get a pair of Rockford Fosgate FNX2614U. I got them on ebay for $129. I also got myself a new HU, a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X679 for $239 on ebay. I already have a 12" subwoofer and a 4 channel amp (I don't remember the brand names) that I had on my previous car. I plan on running the rear speakers with the HU and the front speakers and sub with the amp.
