need help with sound deadening installation
hey i'm in the middle of installing raammatt in my 2000 Impreza. This is my first time doing this, so it's been a slow process, and have many questions on how to do this properly.
I got the door panel off, and am putting 2 layers of raamatt on it. my goal is to stop vibrations, and make the door sound more solid. i'm not bothered by the road noise.
question #1: there are two styrophome pieces on the door panel do i take them off and put raamatt on it?
after i took off the panel there was a clear plastic covering on the door...
question #2: do i take the clear plastic covering off?
question #3: do i put raamatt over the wires, and other stuff on the door?
question #4: which parts of the door do i have to sound proof?
question #5: do i have to cover every single square inch?
sorry if my questions and wording are confusing, i don't know the name of the car parts so it's hard for me to describe them. i took pictures of my door, and will upload them if it helps.

well, i havent seen the inside of a door off of a 2000 impreza, but you want to get the material on the metal. try to go under wires or lay the material right up against the wires or underneath them. also, most people cover the outer panel and the inner panel. getting to the outer one may be a little tough in some cases, depending on how the window is hooked up to the door and how many spaces there are on the inner panel. just remember, you dont have to cover every inch of metal with material. if there is a spot or two thats bare, its ok. just cut the material to fit in spaces between things like wires.

The plastic is a moisture barrier. If you have high-quality clear 3M parcel tape (I used to by rolls in bulk from Costco), you might be able to repair it and make it reusable. Regular office tape is too flimsy.

Hey Dubc
I just finished Raammating one door on my Impreza last night. If you want to make the door feel solid you will need to cover the outermost sheetmetal with at least 2 layers. I did two layers for most of the door and 3 on the larger panel areas. I also placed 1-2 layers on the inner door skin. The knuckle rap test of the finished door vs. stock blew me away. The door sheetmetal feels 8 times as dense.
As far as the stock vapor barrier, chuck it. But, make sure you cover up all the holes with Raammat (this will serve as your vapor barrier). There are a couple holes that raammat will be tough to use as a barrier so cut up some strong 8mil plastic sheeting or tape as suggested earlier and use that to seal the rest of the door.
Good luck.

All you have to do is roll the window up and you will have some space to get your arms into the door. I just finished putting Brown Bread in my 2004 RS and it has made a big difference. Oh yeah, it helps to remove the speaker fom the doors when putting the material on (one more hole for your arm). Good luck... My girl has commented on how nice the door sounds now when it is closed (nice thud).
One more thing... The rear doors are amazingly easy to work on and there is a small, sorry piece of sound dampening material that comes with the car from the factory. I just carefully pulled it off and went to town on the rear doors.
