Installed Forester din pocket in WRX
Hi all,
After seeing some pics on the board of the Forester DIN pocket installed, I decided to get one.
Most people have installed their single DIN HUs on top of the pocket, but I wanted my HU on the bottom, so I could still feed it CDs if I happen to be using the cup holder. Also, I wanted to mount the pocket "upside down" so the door flap folded down, not up. Easier to access IMO. What follows are instructions for mounting the pocket on top of the HU "upside down".
My head unit (Alpine) bolts right into the factory holes on the OEM brackets for bottom mount. Simple enough.
The DIN pocket mounted on top with a few simple mods.
First, you need to take off the small tab on the black trim ring surrounding the pocket door. Sand it off, or cut it off with dremel or hack saw blade (don't worry you wont see it when its mounted)
Second, you need to dry fit the pocket and head unit in the dash to get a flush look. Use duct tape to tape the pocket to the head unit (this is temporary). Get it where you want it, pull the unit out, and mark the location you need to drill.
Third, you need to drill one hole each in the OEM brackets. The holes will accept the little plastic "nubs" on the sides of the pocket. You want the holes to be a tight fit with the "nubs" so choose your bit drill carefully. Start small, you can always go bigger. The nubs are the only thing holding my pocket in, that's really all you need once the unit is mounted there's not much chance of it coming out.
Install the mount screws on one side of the head unit, insert pocket (pushing nub through the hole you just drilled). Then install mounting screws to other side of head unit.
That's about it. Pretty simple.
Thanks to those who did this first and posted pictures.
