Not on an Ipod, but I used to do it all the time with my portable DVD player. There's no reason why it shouldn't work. As long as the Ipod uses a standered headphone jack. I have a 9873 and was connecting it to a Toshiba SPD2000 dvd player.

I have an iPod. In that case if that's all that's needed, it should work. I think one of my friends did it with a Panasonic deck.

I was planning on doing the same... but instead of the iPod, I might get the iriver h120. It seems to have a lot of features for the money. A guy at work sold his iPod to buy one because of some of the extras.

There are also a few head units out there (I think 2 last time I checked) that the i-Pod can plug directly into (one it slides into the head unit entirely, the second has a holder that come out...they charge the thing as well...

Sorry, blanking on the name though...

My brother just got a Y-splitter and hooked it up to his Sony head unit. All we did was slide the head unit out, plugged it into the corresponding ports, ran the wires underneath some panelling, then slid it back in. Presto an i-pod that works in a car.

That's exactly what my brother did. I would take some pics, but my brother isn't ever home anymore.

for those of you who have the newer alpine head units and the ipod, you are in for a treat. Alpine is coming out with an interface unit that will display all the information you see on the ipod's screen directly onto the head unit's display. The interface will also allow charging of the ipod while in use. So no more messing around with the ipod trying to find songs and no more worries about running out of battery while you are on a trip. Brought to you by your friendly neighborhood alpine dealer..( thats me )

Its set to hit the market around the end of the summer. It consists of two things: a control unit with a cable that interfaces with the ipod. As of this moment, there isnt an set prices on the unit. Ill let everyone know when it comes out.
