How Good Is The Factory Installed Alarm?

How good is the factory alarm at keeping people from stealing your car? I mean, if they open the door or break the window, the alarm will go off, ignition is killed. I have it installed in mine as well locking my brake with that big red club-like thing that won't allow people to press down on it. I figure that's a lot of work if someone wants my car.

yes but lets say.. they get into your car alarm goes off they kill the switch. but instead of stealing your call they steal all the **** in your car. if you have some type of pager system then most of that could be stopped b4 they get away with any of your ****.

I don't leave anything in my car though. And I have my trunk locked so that you can't pop it from the inside.

I think what I really want to know is if the ignition is totally killed with the Subaru alarm - seeing as how we WRX owners don't have the luxury of having the KEY-ONLY start that other cars do .

Thanks for the info netz!!!

But I don't have the club for the steering wheel I have the thing that locks the brake or the clutch and doesn't allow you to push down on it. I find that thing pretty helpful.

The factory alarm is o.k. as factory alarms go...I lost my keys once, and only had the valet key. The alarm went off when I opened the door using the key and not the transponder, and I couldn't start the car.
Also, a couple of idiots (not serious theives) tried to break into my car twice. Both times, the alarm went off and scared them away.

lets just say you get what you pay for. ive had to break into my car twice at the same place. my transponder would not disarm the alarm because of....i dont know why? too much interference maybe?
all i had to do was unplugg the security module under the arm rest. the alarm stopped beeping and started her up and drove off.

ditto what Kenny C said. All of these theft protection devices don't insure you car won't get stolen. We talked about this in one of my classes in college (Deviant Behavior. It was a damn cool class). Thieves steal stuff that is small and or portable(hence why you never hear much about 36" Tube TVs being stolen). For cars, things like the club can easily be defeated. However, the effort it takes and more importantly the extra ten or so seconds it takes to defeat the an antitheft device, are what make theives try another car. That 10 seconds could make all the time in the world, and if there's a car that's of comparable desire nearby that doesn't have the club, the thief will save himself the time and effort and steal it as he's less likely to take more time thus risk more chance of getting caught.
For anyone interested, we also talked about such fun things as strippers, body piercers(more specifically extreme piercings) and all sorts of other stuff in that class. Definately an interesting class to say the least.

Question regarding the stock alarm...

I have an '03 I bought in April, but am wondering about the alarm functions..

All I have changed is cancelling out the horn beeps when you arm/disarm it..

Does the stock alarm come with the motion detector and ignition kill switch?

I have tried pushing the bumber, and rocking the car, but it doesn't go off..

Is the motion detector and ig. kill ANOTHER upgrade to the factory security system??????

Thanks!

The stock alarm for the 02-03 has a starter kill only as mentioned earlier in this post, there is no ignition kill.
The shock sensor is just that, it will sense impact but not motion. You can rock or shake the car all you want but it won't go off, the shock sensor will only respond to hard impact such as hitting the window.
It is possible to wire additional sensors into the alarm using the instant trigger wire, but you have to add a diode to isolate the added sensor(s) from the trunk switch.
