How to check if Amplifier is good?
After my swap i went back to hook up my sterio system - 4 pioneer speakers and a pioneer sub to my 600w sony amp and the amp wasn't getting any power.
I took the car to a car audio place and they said the cable that was running to the amp from the battery was not rated high enough for that amp - fair enough.
I did a little research and found that I needed an 8 guage wire for the amp, so i went to home depot and bought an 8 guage wire and wired that all nice, but the amp still didnt get power. I definetely have the amp grounded properly, so i have no idea what could be wrong.
The weird thing is that the sterio setup worked for about a year until I did my swap and when i hooked it up, no amp power.
One thing to mention, the fuse in the line to the amp had been blown so i replaced it with a bit better one but still nothing.
and unforuntately i don't know anyone with an amp i can borrow to try
Any suggestions as to what I do here?

well if the fuse was blown, thats not a good thing, there is a reason that happened.
is there another internal fuse on the amp itself anywhere to check?

There are two more fuses on the back of the amp, but those are both fine, i have checked them a few times just to make sure.
Its weird though, i assume the fuse was there to protect the amp, plus its a whole new cable now with a nice beefy fuse.

The way that the amp is wired (how its always been as far as i know) was wired straight to the battery.
Maybe i don't have the system wired correctly? does the power cable go to the deck first or something?
and whats the kick on wire?

there is a wire coming off of the amp that is a switch. It needs +12v for the amp to turn on.
I am not sure what color it is, but most of the time its a light blue. Look at the wires coming off of the amp (or possibly just a connection block at one end) and you should see one labeled "kick on" or "power on", something along those lines.
put +12v to that wire and the amp should turn on.
