head unit question

Here is a question for you audiophiles. I'm looking at a receiver - Panasonic MXE CQ-DFX983U. It plays MP3's and has satellite radio capability. The Panasonic has the best display I have ever seen on a receiver. Here's the kicker: I was reading the specs and noticed the Panasonic has a cd signal-to-noise ratio of 96 db. I noticed some other receivers like the ones from Alpine have a s - n ratio of 105 db. (both with the same power rating) Will that be that much of an audible difference? And will that matter with mp3's and satellite? I know a good head unit makes a difference, and I'd hate to spend that much cash on something just because it looked pretty, and the sound wouldn't be that great. Any comments?
All depends on the road noise you get - if your driving produces enough road noise, without Amps, better speakers and a loud volume, you probably hear squat difference. I know for myself I couldn't care too much about that because the road noise I get is enough to drown out the difference
