nope. have a baby on the way. The laptop i as gonna use cooked. Techinically it would be as simple as...
1. laptop under passenger seat.
2. OBDIIUSB cable connected to laptop.
3. Video output on notebook to video input on screen in car.
4. use iphone to control the computer over adhoc wifi network with RDC, VNC, etc.
5. use one of the ECU flash progs of your choice to give you the best selection of guages.
or you could do it the big baller way and get a 2din carputer running windows 7. Make it display your guages and replace your stereo as your media center. Plug a huge usb HD into it and copy all music/movies to it. The carputer is touch screen.

ya the second way sounds like the way to go. so if you did the laptop way, i to have a extra craptop, how would you do the power? and would you have to turn it on and off everytime you started the car? or is there a way around that? other than that sounds like it would work. just be a hastle! i would rather save the money and buy one of those car comps. how much would that set up cost?

Not sure about the carputer cost. Varies depending on what you get with it. You use the same it as you would use on a plane but with the lighter plug on it. You can also modify that and run it directly to your fuse panel. There are a few ways of waking the computer up and putting it to sleep. With power off you can set it to go to sleep after one minute. O wake it up you can either do wake on LAN, Which will wake it up when you try to vnc/rdp into it, or Bluetooth trackball mouse click will initiate a wake up.

You will never duplicate the quality or response of the virtual gauges of a car where they are OEM and integrated into the vehicle electronics and display. The best you can do is an in-car PC using either an external display or a video input on an aftermarket head unit.
You may want to take a look at the Ecutek Delta Dash which has a customizable virtual dash function. DD can run on just about any laptop/notebook so if you have an old one laying around it can be repurposed for this application. More info at www.ecutek.com
