Hey everyone, I am thinking about dynamatting my doors and trunk to get better sound from my speakers, but I've never done it before, so I was wondering if any of you have any advice on doing it, where to put it, how much to use, and specifically if you have any pictures of your work, that would be great if you could post them. Any advice would be great! Thanks fellas! (and gals) :-)
Oh, one more thing. Also I am planning on upgrading my speakers, so if you have any pictures of your speakers and spacers that you used to fit either 4" or 5.25" in the rear doors, and 6.5" in the front doors. I have the upgraded speakers, so I think the spacer is already there, but I'm not really sure...thanks!

I am in the process of installing sound dampening and insulation material throughout my car along with a 6.5 component set. First off, check out products besides Dynamat.
http://www.raamaudio.com/ - the stuff I'm using
http://www.b-quiet.com/
http://www.edesignaudio.com/ep/edead.htm
All of these products are comparable to Dynamat extreme and are at least a 1/3 the cost. In addition to mass loading, you will want to add sound insulation (higher frequencies). Jute (carpet pad) is the cheapest solution. For better performance, look at contrained layer foam. The B-quiet site sells this (cheaper than McMaster-Carr). I'm using 2 layers of Raamatt60 and a mix of VComp and LComp in my 2000 RS. This includes doors, headliner, floor & trunk (no foam in the trunk). The car should be very quiet (at the cost of significant added weight). However, I would say the loss in performance is less than turning on the A/C (but still noticeable).
The component set I have (Adire Koda) has a deep midrange driver. I've added some spacer rings made of MDF and sealed the whole thing with the sound dampening material. Some door modifications were required with this setup.

dyna mat
i would put dyna mat extreme only...because all the other dyna mat don't really work dat good i'm a car stero insatller (and sales) so i come up with bs up my @ss...but only use dyna mat extreme and when u dyna mat the trunk...dyna the whole trunk. don't be cheap with it..(i know the price won't) but if you planning a big system. why not. as for the speaker...just put a 1 square feet of dyna mat for each speaker...and dats all you need.
Yeah i got some dynamat but I don't really know how to install it on the trunk lid. Do you guys have any suggestions? or tips or pictures of installs? Should i just have it professionally installed?

This week im in the process of Dynamatting my whole car except the roof. Im using Dynamat Xtreme on my doors, floor, rear deck, and trunk. I wouldnt go w/ anything less than Xtreme or other similar product like second skin STFU-80.i just finished the floor and im going to start on the trunk on wed. so after i start i'll take some pics.
To install the stuff you need a box cutter or siccors, a heat gun or hair dryer, and a roller. remember to clean whatever your going to install the on. you can use acetone or brake cleaner (use a mask). cut what you want to use, heat it up a little bit, remove the backing and apply it to the surface. once its on there heat it up a little more and use a roller to press it against the surface. u want to make sure that you use a good amount of pressure to get it on there and get any air bubbles out. if you use something like dynamat Xtreme it would be smart to use some gloves to protect your hands because the aluminum on the dynamat is really sharp and will leave a ton of paper cuts on your hands.

thanks that sounds great. I'm mostly puzzeled about how to do the trunk lid... aka how do you get the dynamat in the little holes and still apply enought force to it when putting it on. Some pictures would be great thanks a lot i can't wait to see. I'm thinking of doing my trunk this weekend.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to some pics too! This is one of those planned mods as soon as it gets warmer outside. BTW, has anyone tried the quietcar liquid/spray? It has a pretty impressive demo video.

I dynamat'd my trunk lid. It certainly cut down on the noise but I am not sure that I would recommend as it essentially removes your ability to open the trunk via the remote trunk opening lever (due to increased weight). It also isn't the most attractive thing on Earth. If I ever decide to sell the car, I am not sure how I will address these issues...
