Bass fades in and out

have a question, writing for a friend. he has an eclipse head unit running to a rockford fosgate amp which powers the speakers and 2 subs. when he plays the radio all seems ok for the most part but at times the heavy base stops working. with CDs it occurs more often. the sound coming out of the speakers sound good, just the heavy low end bass drops in and out. what could be the problem? the head unit, amp or subs? any input greatly appreciated.
thanks

Sounds like the heavy bass hit is drawing too much current for the system. First thing I woul check is the ground on the radio. If it is anything like my cousin's 2G Eclipse he had to hook up a ground to the radio, it was no in the harness. I would assume the lights also dim with the heavy base hit, if so he probably needs a capacitor to help with the current needed.
A good rule of thumb is if you have an amp get a capacitor. Amps can really draw a lot of current from the electrical system of the car that is not designed to be pulled, creating a lack of current to the essential functions of the car that need it to operate.

Sounds like your friend needs to invest in one of if not both of these....
a better battery......like an optima or something like that.
Second...a cap. You can pick up a generic one for like $75 and be just fine. Most of the nicer ones are built by the same companies as the cheaper ones and they just slap their own tops on.
I have an RF digital cap cause I got it free cause a stereo shop jacked me and I got really pissed so they gave it to me.
so yeah...get a cap first. Then get a nice battery.
