bad reception in my 02 wrx

i know how to use tools but im kind of a novice when it comes to cars.

i bought a used car, it came as is. apparently the previous owner installed a sony xplod panel, that exists in front of the radio/cdchanger.

reception isnt that good i get distortion.

i did search up some threads, and this is what i found:

===========================
I tried to hook up the antennea booster wire using the power antennea lead on the wire harness but i still get bad reception. Is the power wire for the antennea booster the white one on the factory harness or is it a different wire? Please Help ASAP.
---------------
Connect the white wire from the factory harness to the power antenna lead on the aftermarket harness. This should solve your issue.

=====================
I have installed a Pioneer DEH-P940M hu and 6 1/2 inch infinities in the front and 5 1/2 inch infinities in the rear. CD's sound great but I can't get AM/FM except for a local FM station - when I pull the antenna lead I stilll get the local FM station. Is it possible that I have a bad connection to the rear glass antenna - if so how do I go about checking this.
---------------------------
If you didn't hook up your antenna power lead, then that is your problem. The internal antenna is amplified so it needs a power feed.
=====================

are these solutions to my problem? i really dont get how to hook the wires up, can someone explain. this wrx is my first car.

are these wires behind the radio? so do i have to take out the radio?

i want to be able to get good reception on my wrx, thanks.

the antenna on my car is the regular external kind.

The info about the amplified antenna applies to the 04 and newer which have the antenna in the rear glass. If you have an earlier car with the whip antenna on the drivers pillar this is not your problem.
