if u put it behind the deck its better b/c if u ever decide to upgrade ur head unit to one that has preouts u will be able to jus connect the RCA's to teh deck without having to move them

i installed the factory sub in mine by myself. it's actually a harness that goes inline with the factory harness. you plug the harness for the sub into the factory connection, and that plug then goes to the back of the factory head unit. it pretty much acts as an interrupt and splits off to the sub.
