Amp mounting locations
I just installed my first sub and right now just have the amp floating around in the trunk with the rest of the crap back there while I figure out where to mount it. My friend suggested screwing iot right to the top of the box. I dont like that idea because of the ease of a theft of every thing at once. I'v been thinking of mounting on the back of the rear seats, but im not sure if it'll hold there(I like rough roads) and I was woundering if anyone else has mounted their amp there. I know alot of people mount them under their seats but I have an inverter under the Pax seat and a computer(for MP3's and nav) under the drivers seat. I was briefly thinking of putting it between the rear deck and the metal frame under the rear deck but figured heat would be an issue, fans are an option but I'd like to aviod that. Anyone have any other suggestions?

It'll involve some work and I'm not sure how much room there is, but is under the rear seat an option? You'd have to pull the whole thing out, which would kinda suck, but it would be totally out of the way if it worked. Downside is that you wouldn't have easy access to any crossover/gain/volume controls even if fit in the first place, unless the amp has some sort of external module to adjust those settings.
I've heard of other people fabricating some tie-links out of metal and putting them across the backs of the seats for the purpose of mounting amps/crossovers. I haven't seen any pics of those arrangments, however... If you go that route, remember that Loc-Tite is your friend.

I had pulled the rear seat a few months ago looking to hide the inverter but its a solid metal plate under the rear seat, the gas tank i think. besides that the amp generate WAY to much heat to inclose in such a place. Thanks for the input though.

I have a HUGE amp, I just put it behind the box..I also have a huge box (3 12's) so the box doesn't go to the back of the trunk anyway and my amp fits there perfect...unless you are trying to hide it, just put it right behind the box or right next to it..DO NOT attach it to the box though..

i mounted mine on the fold down arm rest fits perfectlly there.
its a memphise so its very narrow. you can try there or make an amp rack in one of the sides by carpeting a piece of MDF and screwing it to the metal on the side of the trunk. and then cutting holes in it to run the wires behind it (also looks clean this way). Ive seen people make a amp rack out of metal or something under the rear deck and have like a shelf there. also you can mount it to the back of the seat but first but a piece of board (carpeted) and attach it securlly to the 2 square tuping bars that are behind the carpet. This way you can mount it on the back and have the reqitidy that your looking for.

Amp position has no affect on performance, heat buid up does however. DO NOT mount it under the rear seat, two reasons...one....screwing into the gas tank is usually a bad Idea...two...the rear cusion will allow for absolutly no air circulation. mount it to the rear seat with dry wall screws. it won't go anywhere. the seat has a metal plate on the back and the screws will hold firmly into it. it will also receive sufficient air flow. you can also keep you wires neat by using p-clips to create straight lines of wires rather then having it hanging around you trunk like it is now. you don't want to mount it to the box because if you ever need the trunk space, all you do is disconnect you speaker leads and you have a bunch more room, you don't have to worry about dissconnecting the amp. that and like you said, theft reasons, but keep in mind that any smart theif would carry a screw driver, or drill.
