sub/amp locations in wagon

Where have you wagon owners put your subs and amps without sacrificing cargo area? Under front seats the only option? I think I've seen on the back of the rear seats, but that would get banged up every time I take a big load. Thanks for any input.

Custom made amp rack that fits behind the wheel humps, same for sub. Amp is a little trickier, depends on how big it is.

I am having mine done this week.

Guy is building an amp rack right behind the back seats.

if you look at your rear end you have the big compartment...the two on the sides...and the one for the umbrella directly behind the seats. He is taking that out and building a box in there to fit flush with the floor for a JL 500/1 and a 300/4.

I'll get you pictures in the next 2 weeks if you want. Gonna be sick.

I made 2 custom enclosures for 6.5 JL subs (bout .75 cu ft) that fit just behind the Wheel wells they face the sides of the car so as to not get damaged. People are crazy about the sound those little babies put out. I use the car for work everyday in and out. it does take up cargo but very min...

amp is under pasanger seat.

right now I have an 800watt dual channel amp screwed to a small piece of carpeted board on top of the spare, and a clunky sub box ( building a fiberglass box kind of like Herger's ) that houses the 12" Infinity sub.
I will take a pic of the amp location later and put it up here www.slakin.net/04WRX/index.html. This page currently displays my work in progress for building my sub enclosure.

I put two amps in, one under each seat, it works well because whenyou do it right, aka wires under the carpet, no one can tell they're there. my sub however is just in the back ina box fastened to the panel over the spare. Didn't have enough time to make a nice thing for that.

The hosting site is down but when it's back up the picture should show up. Until then, I made a whole new floor, amp is in the floor just in front of the spare tire well, sub is behind the driver side rear wheel hump. Sub box is bolted through the floor with 5/16" bolts. Felt that this way was overall a better set up than having the amp behind one of the wheel humps.

Here's the picture (hopefully it'll show up soon)

Do advance search on user "pimpUall" in stero section. The top one has pictures of my setup. I mounted a 10" fosgate P1 sub in the floor of my car. I used 3/4" MDF and made a false floor and put a Heavy duty speaker grill so I dont have to worry about damage to the speaker. The speaker fit right inside of the spare and sounds great. It's loud in the inside and quiet outside. It only cost me $50 to get the board made. It wont let me upload the pictures again. The thread is "sub and amp install stock head"

I attached my amp to the back seat. I actually need to use the space in the hatch sometimes, so the sub is in a sealed enclosure with a quick release cable. I put 4 2" cabinet latches on the bottom of the sub and the floor of the cargo area so it won't slide around.

herger, can you post another pic of your trunk. I'd like to see the amp rack when it's open, and a better shot of the sub. Is that a W7 or W6? Did you make the enclosure yourself? I love the stealth look of it, and I'm hoping to do something similar in my wagon.

Thanks,
J

Jay, I don't have any pictures with the cover off the amp rack. Basically it's just a fiberglass reinforced 1/2 mdf box painted with spray on truck bedliner (Wal-Mart). The cover is flat and just attached via velcro to the box. Sub is an 8W7. Amp is Memphis Belle 1300D. Here are some other pictures.

Edit: I did make it myself. Remember, it only has to look good on the outside.

That is just awesome!! I am really impressed with the detail and overall look.

Almost exactly what I'm looking to do, except that I have black carpet.
Is that wood speaker frame the same one that the w7 came with?

How did you measure the correct volume for the enclosure? The W7 requires a lot of space.

So that upholstry looking stuff is just spray-on?

How much experience did you have with fiberglass/woodworking, etc before you started this project?
