Try Adire Audio's Brahma line. There is a guy running one 12" in a vented box(it's a very well designed box that his shop sells) that is outright loud (143 db if I remember right). The system is set up as a daily driver and not as an SPL setup. The sound quality is great and the price is comprable to the JL's. Here's a link http://adireaudio.com Here's one for the enclosure (check out the videos they have of the subs at work): http://www.powered4sound.com/

The L5 is older, a little less expensive($50) and carries a rating of 750 watts rms, and the L7 carries a rating of 1000 watts rms. I will be getting the dual 4 ohm version, wiring it to 2 ohms and running my xplod 900watt rms 1600 watt peak amp to it. I called a local dealer and they said there is essentially no difference between the L5 and L7 except some cosmetics. Do you guys know any differently?

voyager2000 is right. If the amp is to actually put out that much power, make sure your wiring is up to snuff. I'd guess at least 2 gauge or bigger (smaller number). You'll need at least 1 capacitor, probably 2. A high drain battery might not be bad insurance either.
I used to run a Solobaric, back when they were round. I thought they were sealed only. I guess they've changed.
I think I read that Audiobahn has a 12" with a 4" xMax. Loudness = displacement. Displacement = Diameter * xMax. So xMax is good.
If the JLs weren't loud enough then the box probably wasn't optimal or you had ear plugs in. I was in an s-10 5 years ago with 3 10W6s in it and I could hardly breath.
Amplifier power makes little difference once you get up so high. going from 800W to 1600W is 3dB. Generally 2dB is considered the minimum difference that is audible.

Since money doesn't seem to be an issue and space seems to be a concern, consider an ISObaric setup. Google it, I'm sure it'l come up with some good info. 2 speakers arranged properly = 1/2 the volume required.

Hey, I was just trying to help out.
You're right, the Audiobahn might sound like crap. Your emphasis seemed to be primarily on volume and all I did was see it in a magazine. I didn't say to buy it. I was just using it for reference to say that xMax is part of volume, not just diameter. Hell, the 4" is probably wrong.
What said about the capacitors was incorrect, I meant to say 1 or 2 farad.
And what I said about wire size is not bull. Check out
12volt
or try here it has a calculator to figure voltage drop. 1AWG loses 0.2V less than 2 AWG with 120A. (1600W/12V = 133A if you're only running one amp).
I'm surprised at the JLs performance in the JL box. You obviously have very high expectations. What sort of sound level are you attempting to reach and what sort of sound are you looking for? What type of music do you listen to?

I understand what you are saying but whenI checked my battery measures 14.37 volts on a digital readout and at the point at which it enters my amp its is 14.33 I dont think that 0 gauge or 2 gauge is going to make that much of a difference.
