alarms in wrxs
hi guys/girls.i have posted this topic in other forums just in case some of you are not members there and can be of help.im a jersey resident and have been reading about the stolen cars our members and others have been reporting.im sorry to hear if you happened to be one of those unfortunate wrx owners.if you have the upgraded alarm, which i do,i believe theres a fuel cutoff switch,ie engine immobilizer.shouldnt that prevent the auto from ever being started?with this being a concern and living in new jersey i mgiht consider selling my 04.any comments are aprreciated, thanks.

i've had my car stolen twice (when I had a "bucket") and had 2 attempts on my WRX. And I'm keeping my WRX.
Do as many security modifications you can. Do not keep the hood cable accessible. Get a pager system. If you can get a garage, its worth it.

I agree with adding multiple security mods. The more you have, the more time it will take a thief to disarm each. They will ALWAYS be able to take your car if they really want, but if an easier target is nearby, perhaps they'll go for it instead.

I have installed a Viper 650 and im pretty happy w/ it. You can get it w/ hood and trunk prodection and a kill switch. if the alarm is triggered there is a button in a secret location that you have to press in a certian mater to get the car to start. You could also wire a switch to interrupt the circuit to the fuel pump. No gas, no vroom.
Lastly, you could get an Auto Lock, the club mechanism that attaches to you clutch pedal or brake pedal (if you have an automatic). If all else fails, there LoJack.

Got my old car jacked twice in the same year (i deserved it, it was an accord). There is absolutely nothing u can do to prevent someone from getting in ur car. Do not leave anything inside the interior that will make them wanna get inside of it. Driving away in your car maybe preventable, but if they do succeed, u better pray u have lojack. I got the lojack from the dealer, cost me like 5 bills. The funny thing is that I read the documents n crap that came with the lojack system afterwards and if i remembered correctly, LOJACK will give u $5000 if they cant find your car within a month............a month??? A MONTH!?!?!? BS! I'd probly claim a total loss to insurance company by then. Only sure way to protect your car is to sleep in it with a shotgun
(remember to load it)

i have the upgraded security in my '04 & live in northern nj. i am not concerned at all. i always know where my car is, always lock it, and hell thats what insurance is for!

The others are right on both counts -- there is NOTHING you can do to stop a determined thief, and any car can get jacked, not just nice ones. Subarus are in fact pretty far down the list of cars to get grabbed, simply because they are rare enough that the parts aren't particularly easy to fence. In contrast, Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords get grabbed like handfuls of popcorn here. Escalades are also big targets -- they like to steal all four wheels off them, and then when the owner gets them replaced, come back and grab the whole car. This happened twice on my street, and I am in one of the nicest areas of town (North Scottsdale, not a house or condo here under 200k).
The rules are the same anywhere you live:
1) Park under a light, near a security camera, and where others can see your car -- all three together is ideal
2) Install an alarm with a true ignition kill (and a fuel cut if possible)
3) Use multiple systems (both an alarm AND a brake pedal clamp, for example
4) Don't leave your car anywhere but your own garage for more than an hour or two. Cars actually get stolen right out of their garages here in Phoenix, they just crank up the door with a car jack!
5) GET WHEEL LOCKS and leave your car in gear with the steering wheel locked. At least Subies can't be towed away by two wheels when you do this

And what's this garbage about NJ being the worst in the nation? There's not a single NJ city on this list:

Wow, not a house around your area under 200k??? Thats a steal! In my ghetto area, 250k minimum for a ****ty house in a ****ty neighborhood. But the gangsters are kew so they dont jack your car, they rob your house
Hmmm, car got jacked twice, house robbed once..........should i move out yet? hahhaha........san gabriel valley, you gotta love it!
