2004-specific WRX speaker install questions

I never thought installing new speakers would be so hard. in my old car they just dropped in.

1) fronts - I purposely did not get the 'upgraded' speakers (so I could put in my own) but discovered I have separate tweeters nonetheless. Tried to trace the wires up to the x-over but they go through the door to the engine bay & I can't figure out where they end up. Where are the stock x-overs located so I can rip them out and wire in my own speakers?

2) rears - New 4" speakers are 4-hole, the stock hole is 3-hole. speakers didn't come with adapter rings, and I couldn't find any at circuit city, best buy, 6th ave, crutchfield, partsexpress, or ebay. What has anybody used to mount the speakers? custom brackets? what material?

3) harness - both front/rear have the strangest harness and are different from each other. could not find a compatible harness from scotch or metra. should I forget it & just cut wires?

thanks

It's not quite as hard as it looks. I also have an 04 REX.

1. When you disconnect the stock speakers you can simply cut and use the existing wires. Now this will depend on if you are gouing to use a coax or seps. You will have to use a 1 inch spacer. You should be able to get those at any custom stereo shop. Not Circuit City, Best BUY, etc. Most tweeters will fit using the stock tweeter bracket. You will will have to run wire from your crossover of course. Simply run the stock wire into the crossover network. You'll need aditional wires for the MID also.

Are you planning on running a sub? If so, I would not waste money on putting speakers in the rear door. You won't hear em'.

Hope this helps

i'm using coax's. i got the spacers from east coast scooby.

i'm trying to locate the wires coming straight from the headunit, someone said they go into the tweeter and the crossover is in there. do you know if that's the case? i think it is a white and a red wire going into it.

i just found out east coast scooby has spacers for the rear as well so i'm going to get those. might as well, because i got infinity 4's for really cheap. probably will get a basslink in the future

Are you using the stock head unit? If so just use the wire from the stock mid location. If you are using an aftermarket deck, get a wiring harness adapter. I don't remember what color the wires were behind the deck.

ah thanks for the info. that's a strange setup, it's like the tweeter and fullrange are wired in parallel or there are two separate channels going to each door?

i'll use the wires going to the fullrange then. do you remember what color the wires are? is this correct: http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/m.../radiowrx.html

did you use wiring harnesses or crimp the wires? i got a toyota connector made by metra which looks like it fits but is slightly off
