Guys - I was planning on upgrading my stock system w/ 4 new speakers and a new sub, which i've already purchased. The question is - what should i do for powering them? I was wondering whether it would be better to get an amp that is 4+1 channels or a 6 channel and bridge two channels to power the sub.
I know of the option to get a 4 channel and a 1 channel mono, but i was hoping to simplify the wiring and minimize the clutter in the trunk. Any thoughts?

There are five channel amps out there as well, the fifth being specifically for the sub so it gives more power. Theres alot of things you can do, you can also bridge down the speakers as well theres ALOT of options. Take your time and think things over

I just have the stock speakers and HU for now. I am going to keep the HU and I'm between Infinity Reference, Alpine TypeS or Polk db's - 6.5 components up front and 5.25's in the back. (obv w/ the adapater rings)
The amp options I had thought of getting were (with their signal to noise ratios):
JBL - GTO 755.6 - 79 dB
Phoenix Gold - R9.0:5 - 110 dB
Sony - XM-1505SX - 100 dB
Kicker - KX700.5 - 95 dB
Infinity - Reference 5761a - 82 dB
Thoughts / suggestions / preferences?
Also - I have read threads about needing a LOC since the stock HU doesnt have RCA preamps. That is only required when the amp doesnt have speaker level inputs, right? Is there a sound quality difference between the two?
Assuming you use the 4-channel LOC, where does the signal for the sub come from?
Sorry if these questions are dumb...
